Her philosophy was Neoplatonic. Neoplatonism proceeded with a spiritual character. Therefore the noblest form of being was in that perfect and authentic world, and physical reality was but a poor shadow of it.
A high ideal leads to the search for the One, a principle inherent in all nature. Thus, mathematics is for the Neoplatonists the basis of study. The numerical activity of this philosopher is reduced to technique, it is observed how it is a continuous study of that of her father, Theon, who observed the works of Euclid and especially Ptolemy
Hypatia helped her father with Ptolemy, but spread her own theories about the work of Diaphanthus and Apollonius.
