OOC: The following has been prose-ified from the original RP chat transcript, and edited for clarification, typo fixes, and impact, with the permission and final approval of thecrimsonrapier's mun. It is set sometime after Rapier and Tsurugi have met and started to get to know each other. This all began with a single sentence: "So I just imagined Tsurugi and Rapier hanging out, the subject turns to Sephiroth somehow. And Tsurugi starts trash-talking Masamune…” IC (prose): "How dare you--what do you even know about him, Tsurugi?" Rapier sputtered, to Tsurugi's surprise. "We are beings brought to life by the desire to serve. You do not know Masamune, you do not know Sephiroth, and you certainly don't know enough to say such obnoxious filth about either." For a moment, she felt a bit sheepish -- after all, who was she to judge others' relationships with their masters? Or at least, she felt that way until the mention of the Demon of Wutai himself. The bane of her master's existence for so many years, the...the...argh! At the defense of that man -- no, she corrected herself: that monster -- she felt a flush of heat run through her humanoid form unlike anything she'd felt since her forging. Her heart pounded with a certain righteous intensity, and she would later register surprise at how much the pulse her ears sounded like the ocean. "What I know of Sephiroth, Rapier," she said, with a sharpness to match her steel. "Is that he has tried to brutally murder my master several times over! Not to mention caused him an ungodly amount of pain, by threatening or outright murdering loved ones of his as well! Including one whose only 'crime' was attempting to save the planet, and another, whom you may recall was one of Buster's own masters! You can make excuses for Masamune all you want -- I'll accept that one's master is one's master -- but don't you dare try to defend that silver-haired genocidal maniac he used to serve!" "That was not Sephiroth! You never knew him, your master never knew him, you have no idea what happened to him!" Rapier ran his hand through his hair. "He was a hero to the planet, and he received nothing but betrayal. He loved us all, and we betrayed him..." his voice grew softer, his expression pained. "I -- " she blinked, thrown by that assertion, and by the change in his demeanor. Her brow furrowed. "Wait...what the hell are you talking about?" she said, and despite the coarseness of the words, her tone ended up matching his own. "Sephiroth..." Rapier whispered the word, almost as if he were praying. He sat down, holding his head in his hands. "Tsurugi...do you know who Buster's first master was? Or my master?" "Um...Zack Fair, right? I don't know about yours...you haven't mentioned him...why?" "Zack Fair was not Buster's first master," replied Rapier. "Buster's very first master was Angeal Hewley. Buster was made for him...much as I was made for my master, Genesis Rhapsodos. We...were, all of us, Sephiroth's...friends." "I...didn't know that anybody was that close to him," she muttered. "Before...you know. Before he went nuts at Nibelheim." "Sephiroth didn't 'go' nuts at Nibelheim," snapped Rapier. "He was pushed, no, shoved over the edge. My master..." he trailed off, his voice growing strained. "I -- " Tsurugi was taken aback. "I'm sorry -- I..." she bit her lip, looking downward for a moment. "You're right," she said carefully. "There's a lot I don't know. That I'm too young to know, really." After a long pause, she looked up again, noting: "You mentioned...your master?" "My master...Genesis..." Rapier sat motionless and still for a long moment. "He was the one who sent Sephiroth over the edge...and I let it happen." Tsurugi felt her heart lurch. "He...what do you mean by that...?" she whispered. "Sent him...how?" She was still trying to process the fact that perhaps Sephiroth's insanity, his...actions...that had all done so much to hurt her master, and to threaten the whole of Gaia, even...could it be true that they hadn't been inevitable? That they had had -- could be traced to a single trigger? No. No, that didn't make sense...did it? But then...from what she understood, Sephiroth had spent a good 20 years or so being considered either innocuous, or a hero. It occurred to her that that was a pretty massive change. She looked to Rapier's face, searching his expression for...what, exactly, she wasn't sure. Clarity? Reassurance? Whatever it was, she was not finding it there. Rapier covered his face with his hand, as if trying to massage his memories away. "I think Shinra suppressed most of the information of the Genesis War...and Jenova Project Gillian." "Maybe..." she muttered, glancing away once she realized she was making him uncomfortable. "I've never heard of either of those. I mean, I've heard of the Jenova Project, but...." Then it hit her. "Genesis War..." she murmured, her eyes widening and she looked up again, having forgotten her intent not to stare. "Genesis...didn't you...say that was your master's name?" It couldn't be, surely? "That was indeed my master," said Rapier. "First Class SOLDIER Genesis Rhapsodos. And Buster's first master was First Class SOLDIER Angeal Hewley -- my master's oldest and closest friend." As a large sword, Tsurugi was not used to feeling small. But she did now. "We were, all six of us...good friends," whispered Rapier. "Masamune, Buster and I, we..." He looked away. "But that is far in the past, now, I'm afraid. And gods, I don't know where to begin." Neither did Tsurugi. The level of loss that she gathered Rapier had gone through -- and the guilt, from the sounds of it -- gods, what must that be like? She assumed, from the sounds of it -- from the use of so much past tense -- that if nothing else, he had lost his master. Lost him, after watching him "push a friend over the edge". The worst edge imaginable. She couldn't help but put herself somewhat in his place -- imagine what it would feel like to see her master make horrible mistakes that could never be walked back, to lose him, even... Before she could think twice about it, she was tossing her arms around Rapier. He gasped, initially tensing at the unexpected contact. Then he melted into it. "I can barely speak of it, Tsurugi," he said. "But trust me...what Sephiroth has done was not all of his own doing. He was a good man, and the fights you and your master have had with him and Masamune...they are a tragedy." She bit her lip, and hugged just a smidge tighter. After a long moment of saying nothing, she felt she had to fill the silence with some sort of acknowledgement there. So she whispered, softly and awkwardly: "Okay..." Rapier hugged her back for a second longer, and then stepped out of her arms. "As for why Masamune and I followed our masters for so long, well..." He reached up and untied his jabot, revealing the black collar around his neck. "I don't know how it was for you and Buster, but Masamune and I were both born with this. We came into being out of a desire to serve. And when that is the backbone of your existence, defying it is like...death." She made a small sound at that, pained and sympathetic -- she hadn't intended to, and realized it probably would seem patronizing in some sense, but it escaped nonetheless, unconsciously bubbling forth and as natural as breathing. She blushed at her own tiny outburst, swallowing, and looking down again so as not to force Rapier into meeting her eyes. That said, even aside from the empathy she felt for him at hearing that or at seeing such visceral evidence of the bonds they could not help but have... It was food for thought. She touched her own throat -- bare of any such collars or markings beyond whatever she herself felt like putting there. No, she realized. Her relationship with Cloud was...different than theirs. But not, perhaps, that different. "It's...strange," she admitted. "My bond with Cloud, I think. But...I think I understand the intensity. I would anything for him, I think. I would die for him, if necessary -- would let myself be completely destroyed, if it meant protecting him, or even just someone he really cared about." She swallowed, adding: "And...when he's in pain. It's -- it's like I'm in pain, too. And all I want is to make it better..." "Yes, I know the feeling," said Rapier. He smiled then, and then tucked his jabot into his coat before taking off his collar. "This is not as ugly as it looks. It is a reminder, not a restraint. I can hide it or take it off as I wish." Still, he placed it back on before tying his jabot back on. "Masamune wore his openly, though. I used to tease him about 'advertising'." She gave a small smile, then. "Marlene teases me sometimes about dressing too much like Cloud. Well..." she laughed. "You know, he doesn't wear miniskirts! But she teases me about always liking the same color palette..." "Our existence is a strange one," said Rapier. "Growing into our own person is...hard. But, I think, with time...we can be as independent as any other person. Then, I think, is when our loyalty is strongest, and truest." She thought about this. About how some of the people Cloud was closest to, who were his most loyal friends, were very different from him. And she nodded, smiling. "Yeah...I could see that," she said. "Like...equals, kind of. Friends." She sighed, a bit wistfully. "Hopefully I'll get to that point with Cloud someday... right now, I think he's still getting used to me, you know?" "Yeah, I know." Rapier smiled. "It took a while before my master and I were like that. We were always perfectly in sync on the battlefield, but outside it...not so much. We had some spats, but we grew very close after I finally forgave him for the night we met..." And with that, Rapier started on the story of how his master wound up kicking him in the balls, and Tsurugi told him, laughing and groaning: "You think that's bad...try unintentionally attacking the guy!", and, for a few hours at least, the tragedy of the past was forgotten.
TheCrimsonRapier: [ To me, it is hilarious to see the differences between the relationship Rapier has with your Sephiroth and the one he has with Seb's Sephiroth.
Rapier: "I got your back, sempai."
Sebhiroth: "You're such a good match for Masamune."
Aisharoth: listen here you little shit

Hey!
1. First impression: It… appears Masa inspired someone to make a blog. *deep sigh* Let’s find out how much of a Genesis-fangirl they are. Gen is probably the only SOLDIER they’re interested in.2. Truth is: You are precious and that deep sigh I let out the first time is very much unjustified. You caught my interest in a Chatzy roleplay session and the days afterwards I logged in mostly to see you and understand your character better. You are kind and at times very witty. Your muse is wonderfully diverse and developed. Can’t wait to see what will happen next in the roleplay!3. How old do you look: your online appearance(interaction-wise) make you look younger, I’d say 21.4. Have you ever made me laugh: Oh yes, we’ve had so much fun! Favourite moment? Daring Rapier to kiss Minerva.5. Have you ever made me mad: DON’T TOP MR. 210cm he is TALLER than you are ARG. 6. Best feature: The PAST your muse has, and how he’ll deal with Sephiroth based on his behaviour with Genesis and Masamune. Yours doesn’t just enter a story, he strides into it with personality and history and flowing red robes.7. Have I ever had a crush on you: No, but my Sephiroth looked at your muse and said, “…that one. I must have him.”8. You’re my: Weapon-of-mass-destruction that I get to spend too little time with this week.9. Name at Skype: Rapier [+your real name]10. Should you post this too? I’ll send something in if you do!
