On this day, we celebrate Glenn Burke!
Born on November 16th, 1952 in Oakland, California, Glenn Burke was a major league Baseball Player for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Athletics and the first MLB Player to come out as gay.
On top of being credited with inventing the High Five with his teammate Dusty Baker, Glenn Burke was among the first class of inductees to the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame, competed in the Gay Olympics (now the Gay Games), inducted in the Baseball Reliquarys Shrine of the Eternals, and played for many years in the San Francisco Gay Softball League.
