Though the reason as to why may have been something marginally disliked - to be approached while busying himself with brooding thoughts was unexpected, Vincent found himself at a disadvantage.        “Your visits are not often for friendly conversation-” A PAUSE in utterings allowed the aged male to adjust his sitting position, to outstretch legs toward the edge of the building; fingers splay behind him to support his torso upright. Eyes turn to linger on the view of the horizon, taking in the beauteous view of orange and pink over the ruins of Midgar.        “What troubles you?”

It’s not that Yuffie’s hair won’t grow: it’s that she’s been conditioned to keeping it short. Though as she grows older and her father loses providence regarding her personal style, she’s grown accustomed to tending to longer styles.

It began as Godo’s coping mechanism. Kasumi had long, flowing hair which reached to middle-back; and Yuffie’s birth, especially as female, weighed heavily on him. He despaired over Yuffie, especially in early years, for having resembled her mother so much, and shared custody of his child with his elderly mother who lived in a rural village, far outside the main city gates. Upon her death, Yuffie was returned to the pagoda where her hair and clothes were styled into androgynous fashion and raised her with the affairs of the estate with the assumption she would lead as lord.

In her time away from Wutai, Yuffie kept the short haircut as it was easier to maintain. Whenever her locks grew beyond chin-length, she’d cut them with either scissors or a knife. Though primarily for convenience, this also helped to reinforce her status as defying the gender-norm. In addition, some sects of Wutai consider long, unkempt hair as a symbol of mental instability– and she likely would have tried to stay away from that stigma. It should be noted, however, that during her early teens she had let her hair grow as a way to mask her identity and to reflect signs of inner turmoil. Shortly before meeting the group, she cuts her hair once more as a sign of determination and inspiration, showing renewed spirits and mental invigoration.

In peace times as she grows older, she becomes less concerned about defying gender norms, having accepted the titles of ‘princess’ and ‘goddess-child’ fairly well. Though she will admit it’s an unusual sensation to her at times, she thinks it rather suits her occupation and frames her developing features well. But for her father’s sake as well as her own, she doesn’t allow it to grow past collarbone ( no matter how much Reno insists ). The length is pretty useful as well, as it allows Cloud ( @adventhero ) to practice braiding in his free time, should he be unable to wrangle Vincent for his bidings.
