Random things,

Could be spoilers for ones who haven't watched OUAT!!

Why was it so hard for Rumplestiltskin to let go of all that darkness/power?

All his life, he's been called a coward who simply couldn't commit to things. Hated, shamed and betrayed. When he became the dark one, a part of him knew how difficult his life was going to be but, they do say revenge is the sweetest, and it didn't take long for his hunger for the same to take over. The only thing keeping him sane? His love, for his son.

Even when he refused to travel to a land without magic, to do better by his son, his hesitation; the human thing about him, failed him. If only he wasn't himself, for maybe just that instant, he would have never lost his son.

Soon the ultimate quest began; to find his son. He acquired new powers, only to understand it caused him more pain but, it had to be done in order to save what he loved.

Everytime, he would give in to his inner human, he was betrayed. Even when he gave his trust to Cora.

Rumple now, lost. Somehow still on his quest, finds Belle. Why did he choose her? Of all the people in the Kingdom, why her? Maybe because he recognizes "a desperate soul". (that would be another topic again). He soon falls in love with her but, cannot really accept it for it would make him weak, he could not afford to lose his powers, he had to stick to his quest. He had to let her go, even when he did know he could lose her forever. When he heard about Belle dying, he was devastated. Again the one time, he gave in to his true feelings, he had hurt the one who loved him most. The one he loved most.

Ages later when he says the words, "Belle, please, I'm afraid", I feel it holds more meaning than it should. He's afraid to lose his powers, the only thing that could protect the ones he loves (the one he loves). He's afraid that he could lose it all, he's afraid of being that coward, he's reminded of a time when he could not do nothing to protect what he loves. He's afraid of losing himself.

After all, it was darkness that made him realize what light actually is. And it was darkness that made everything possible, it was darkness that led him to Belle.

P. S: just some twisted thinking, I thought of. Open to all judgements. I'M NOT A WRITER😂 (although be kind please)
