“My Thinking Machine“
For this week’s activity we were told to pick the most important object that we own right now. I was already thinking diligently while our professor was discussing it. It took me a hard time thinking of anything because I do not own a lot of stuff. I remembered my collection of stationeries but I stopped collecting it and it was not really that important to me now. I asked myself again and contemplated. I realized then that the most important thing for me now is my laptop.
When I was preparing for my first day in school, I searched for the materials and other necessities needed for an architecture student. It was emphasized that an architecture student needs a laptop in every articles and blogs I have read. Because of that, I immediately told my dad that I need to have my own laptop. I did not get a laptop right after I told him. I waited for two terms to have it.
My laptop is my sword. It is my armour, my weapon to my never ending war in the architecture world. I have my own AutoCad which have been very useful in my drafting subjects. I also have SketchUp for making my design in 3 Dimensional. My laptop allows me to do my tasks even I am not in school, which is very beneficial for me. The learning does not stop in school, I get to explore and practice the apps that I needed for my projects. Right now, I want to master Photoshop. I want to step up my game in terms of my presentations and concept boards. I am also fascinated in making art collage in Photoshop. Researching for my reports became much easy through my laptop too. I get to research and read informations from different sources. My laptop is also useful with my non-architecture subjects. My report, essays and home works are done using my laptop. In this modern world we have today, everything is digital. The lesson is seen through powerpoint and sent to my e-mail. Even home works and projects are presented by my professors in our Facebook groups or e-mails.
My laptop became my link to my friends that I don’t get to see often, and to my families living abroad and in provinces. Communication became accessible to me because of my laptop. Moreover, my laptop is my source of entertainment. I love music. I like listening to Alternative R&B, indie pop bands, and rap songs. It also allowed me to travel time and discover the music back then. Michael Jackson, the Beatles and David Bowie made me wish to live during their time. My laptop became my mini movie theater because I got to watch old and new movies and variety of videos.
I value my laptop so much. It is like my window to the world and even to life. Everything seems reachable for me. To a sheltered person like me, I am very thankful to have this object with me to make me feel comforted and amused. I have been facing my laptop more than other people for the past months. Right now, my laptop is my most valuable object because it’s the most useful thing I have. It helps me in my studies that are really important to me now. I do have a lot of things to improve of, and I just want to keep learning and to develop until I can say that I did a great job. I just want to be outstanding and be known by my professors as a student who has substance and has a great potential in this field.
