uber driver was telling me it would probably be relatively easy for me to get a concealed carry permit in pa… only thing is i need to make sure i’m a pa resident, because if i’m a resident of another state then i need a permit in that state too and it’s *much* harder to get a permit in ny, obvs
one, i’ve never shot a gun, but i’d like to one day. i had great aim with a rubber band gun, not sure how that would translate to a real gun… two, i’d honestly feel slightly somewhat safer with a gun on me. this evening there was an armed robbery just two blocks west of me. stuff like that, it happens.
then there’s the issue of what kind of gun could I possibly keep in my bag… i prefer to carry a smaller bag, and it’s already pretty full. i guess i could just carry a bigger bag and have, like, a small handgun. those are the only guns i’m really interested in shooting.

don’t put guns in bags. bags are too easy to separate from you. there are various kinds of holsters for concealing a weapon on your person, you’ll want to do research on that.
besides that, it’s mainly about finding a pistol that you can fire comfortably- you want it to be comfortable so you can practice regularly. there are plenty of decent semi-auto 9mm handguns. Glock is popular for handguns. One of my friends swears by the Walther PPQ.
basically, you first want to get a gun and learn to shoot it. maybe look for classes for beginners. NOT a concealed carry course though - those are usually about the legalities, not about learning to shoot.
you may want to consider home defense separately from out-and-about defense. for home defense, a rifle or a shotgun can be preferable. apparently 223 rem does not have bad over penetration, and an AR-15 can be easy to aim (and comfortable to fire). easy to mount a flashlight and easy-to-use sight onto, as well.
Walther is your best bet- back when I was working for an FFL, he was adamant how the P22 was the best CCW for women (or really anyone) because with a compensator and a good enough grip you’re going to get virtually zero kickback. Only downside to that is it’s still .22 LR, which is pretty much only slightly more lethal than a BB gun. No doubt it’ll scare off any attacker and not mess up your place that badly if you miss, but you may wanna bump up to 9mm if you’re really looking for something lethal.

Could you explain to a layman why you’d sugest the hollow point over a full metal jacket round? Is an FMJ round not enough to take someone down or is this a case of wanting to be sure?
FMJ is less lethal and also a lot more dangerous to bystanders because it can go through walls and stuff with a lot more force if you miss.
The going through walls bit makes perfect sense. I was mostly asking, because I’m a big softie and I seem to recall that HP rounds are quite… Lethal and nasty. Admittedly, if I was squeamish, I shouldn’t be carrying a weapon or thinking about it, but I’d rather keep the number of casualties as low as possible even including the assailant, but I guess that’s too optimistic, if you’re shooting sharp?
what, no, you should always understand the option to fire your gun as the lethal option. do not try to shoot someone to achieve anything short of that. this is why things like situational awareness and the "conditions" are important- you want to avoid having to go to that length if possible.

It’s been three days since Shia LaBeouf launched “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US,” an all-caps beacon of hope in the form of a webcam placed in Astoria, Queens, where Trump dissenters, performance art fans, and other marginalized types are invited to come voice that mantra to a 24/7 streaming audience. LaBeouf has promised that the camera will be live for the duration of Trump’s presidency, and so far it’s been a rousing success, in that the stream is not yet of rats fucking in an empty parking lot. But of course, once you put anything on the internet these days, it’s only a matter of time before it’s infested by some sort of vermin. And so, LaBeouf has already had to contend with various “alt-right” interlopers who have been rallied by 4chan’s “/pol/” thread to drop by and spout their white supremacist bullshit. For the lulz!
Since today’s white nationalist movement is prefaced on being a silly dick, that campaign has mostly involved putting “Make America Great Again” signs in front of the camera, chanting “Pepe,” and other things these people would struggle to articulate the actual reasoning for, were anyone listening. But on Sunday, things came to a head when one of the trolls actually got into it with LaBeouf himself. Wearing a German Luftwaffe cap and the self-satisfied look of a man who has yet to be punched, this brave Göring of GIFs ran right up to the camera to begin rattling off the white supremacist’s “14 Words” and chirping, “Praise Kek!” only to have LaBeouf shout him down with his own sloganeering. The two engaged in a little shoving, nuzzling dance like two sparring antelopes, before LaBeouf finally chased him around and out of the lot.
Video of their confrontation was then overlaid with an animated Pepe and set to some sort of “Trump remix” of what sounds like an anime song, because the “anime Nazi” is but a single facet of this modern hellscape we live in now, the one that will force future historians to just give up and copy-and-paste entire Reddit threads, then consider getting into technical writing for sex-bot manuals. From there it was uploaded to a YouTube channel that collects myriad other examples of alt-righters crashing LaBeouf’s art project to heroically shout simplistic things over other people’s simplistic things, all in the name of ensuring the internet is insufferable on both sides of the ideological divide. Here’s one of them insisting, “Hitler did nothing wrong.” But you know, in a funny, meme-y way!
