Upcoming & Recent Routes . 1st Map: Heading west from Mississippi through Louisiana, stopping wherever the spirit moves me. . After that have loose plans to run the entire length of the Texas-Mexico border, from Brownsville at the southern tip on the Gulf of Mexico to the far western tip at El Paso. . Over the years I’ve lived, visited, or worked in many of the towns and cities along that stretch, though have not driven it in one continuous run. . Saying “run” sort of implies I’ll be pushing hard, trying to cover as much ground as possible in a day. I have no such intention. I’ll be stopping and dawdling and soaking it all in. . I intend to stay as close as possible to the actual border, running as many small town and country roads as I can. . There are a TON of interesting, unique, and historical places along that border that I’ve visited before. I’m sure I’ll find a ton more. . Just my style of exploration and adventure. . 2nd map: Where I’ve been already this latest leg of exploring NA. I left the coast of Maine six and a half weeks ago, on Oct 19. . I’ve averaged an amazingly low one-hundred six miles a day. Slow and easy, soaking it all in, to be sure, though a good part of the low average is due to being stuck in one place for about a week with road repairs, then base-camping in the same place in the Smokies for ten days. . Still, since leaving the mountains of East Tennessee several days ago, I’m not doing more than a couple hundred miles a day at the most. . One of the best pieces of travel advice I’ve ever heard, was from Andrew Pain (andrewcpain.com) adventure motorcyclist and author of several travel books. In a budget workshop @overlandexpo he advised along the lines of “You can stay out longer if you slow down. I use it for all sorts of things and love having it. Gives me temp, wind chill, barometric pressure, dew point, bulb, altitude, humidity, and wind speed, and saves the highs of most of the above.
