I told the fam at the beginning of the year I wanted to become time benders. Once a month try a new experience…you know live a little? I heard some grumbling in response. Right after I made this announcement I found out that The Dixie was hosting Resurrection. I love classic rock, Rachel loves classic rock, Corey tolerates classic rock and I have been catching Cam’s YouTube history here lately full of The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac. I bought tickets and told everyone we were going. Never been to The Dixie…check. Never heard of Resurrection…check. January time bending…check.
The Dixie is a nice place but you don’t feel uncomfortable dressed casually. The crypt keeper that helped us find our seats asked Corey to remove his hat though. I look around and you can tell several ladies just had “hair” day if you know what I mean. A couple of walkers and sprinkle in a few ppl that were stuck in 1981 but trying to dress their age and this was the crowd. I leaned over the kids and whispered to Corey, “Are we in Branson?”
Lights go down…lights come up and out comes guys around my age grinning like possums waiving at the crowd and I’m like oh my god….what in the world have I signed us up for. Now I’ve seen tribute bands before. Good and bad but first impression was screaming cheesy knockoff.
Out jumps the lead singer…tux tails, jeans, white tennis shoes, signature yellow shirt, I’m pretty sure a wig…Cam agreed his hair was pretty shiny…you know Steve Perry from the 80s…it was a Journey tribute band.
They immediately jump into a song. He has all the 1980s hand motions down, the runs, the head throw backs but the rest of the band just smiling and smiling…like smiling…smiling….smiling…I was thinking well good attempt Brandy. I’ll listen to everyone complain on the way home. Some old lady in a pink suit and walker came up the isle after the first song and made her way to the nearest exit as quickly as she could. You could tell the “season ticket holders” had no idea what was going on. HI LARRY US!!
Then I really started to listen. Oh my gosh! They were so good. I mean like really really good. Like listening to Journey. If you could get past all the unicorn, rainbows, and kitten smiling like really really really good. Before I knew it the man sitting next to me was singing with me out loud, the kids were singing and I’m pretty sure I saw Corey tap his finger a couple of times.
Before it was over I was on my feet singing loud. Taking pictures the crypt keepers daughter told me not to take and having a great time.
I really enjoyed their show and was blown away at how talented they really are. The guitarist…wow! You can check them out at www.notjourney.com
I learn lessons everyday. I try to teach lessons everyday. Never judge a book by its cover…you never know how talented a guy dressed as an 80s classic rock singer really is…or if the crypt keeper will or will not tackle you if you forgot to turn off your flash when you try to sneak that picture during the show…whoops…Steve Perry copy dude said it was ok.
Seriously though The Dixie is a really nice place. The ladies there do take their jobs very seriously which I can understand. It also looked like every seat in the house was a good one the way it was designed. Big kuddos to Huntington. Ps: I love the way downtown is lit.
