Summary: Sonny hides his language capabilities from Barba. It backfires, but only a little.

Rafael faces Sonny immediately. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he demands. “That you understood every word?"

“Because I didn’t want you to stop saying those words,” Sonny says immediately, honestly. “Because I knew that if you knew I understood, I’d never heard those words again, and I couldn’t have that.”

Comments: A wonderfully cute fic where Sonny hides his knowing Spanish from Rafael. Hilarity ensues. A lovely read from start to finish. 

So he says nothing. He pretends. He doesn’t lie, but he hides that Spanish is his third language (fourth, if you count Latin, and since Sonny is – was? – a good Catholic boy, perhaps counting Latin is not such a stretch). Some nights, he murmurs back in Italian, amore. He doesn’t miss the way Rafael smiles a little wider.

I'm guessing you didn't see Chernuchin saying that he intends to keep Rollins and Carisi as good friends and nothing more? They're buddy cops and just that. (Yes, my dash is just FULL of people dancing today!)

Yes, I saw it, and  I’m quite sure the B*risi and R*llivia shippers are happy because the “rival” ship won’t become canon (at least not any time soon).

But you know, how many times over have I said that I don’t need canon to enjoy and like a ship? In fact most of the time I’d rather my ships not become canon, because canon almost inevitably will fuck it up?

If I needed canon (beyond being “buddy cops” which is one of my favorite starting points/tropes for shipping), I wouldn’t be a Munch/Fin shipper. And even if canon threw some kind of wrench in that ship now—if Fin started dating someone, or proclaimed himself eternally single, or even if Munch showed up again remarried to Gwen or Billie Lou? I wouldn’t care. I’d still be shipping my ship. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Help? I read a soulmate fic where pain was shared, or something like that, and Barba felt Sonny dying when they were both younger, and it turned out Sonny tried to commit suicide, and now I cannot find it for the life of me.

Rafael has always been of the opinion that the whole concept of having a soulmate is, well, stupid. To be linked to one person who you might never even meet who is somehow supposed to be the perfect match for you? It’s pedestrian to think that some mark over your heart, some quirk of biology, could promise perfection. Rafael has seen too many alleged soulmates cause each other only pain than to do anything but sneer at the notion, and so he pays no mind to the mark across his own heart bearing the letters SC.

That all changes one day when Rafael is in class, struggling to concentrate on the voice of his law professor as she drones on and on about intellectual property rights, when suddenly, his soulmate mark sears across his chest, fading white against his skin. It feels a bit like dying.

He knows his soulmate is dying.

Oh wow, that’s so cool!! Thanks for taking the time to indulge my curiosity, haha! I’m totally tickled by the notion that you tend to react with “I’d love to see how this will turn out” rather than “pfffff, wtf, lol”. :P 

Oh, John. Yeah. I love John, problematic as he is! I love that when he finally gets there, he REALLY gets there, though! I’ve definitely written stories that show John more at his best than at his worst - where he’s patient and gentle and kind (like in The Yellow Poppies, for instance) and others where his demons surface more, but I firmly believe in that beautiful side of him. Absolutely. 

I think you could handle the amnesia story (The Wisteria Tree)! I really do! It turns out very happily in the end, and there are beautiful things along the way there, too, even if there are other moments of pain along the way. It’s one of my very favourites of my own stories! But no pressure (seriously). Huge thanks for your incredibly kind words!!

*giggling* Because I haven't annoyed you enough with this yet, do Barisi. (Although I'm sure fandom will never speak to us again).

Oh boy, well, I think you’ll be off the hook, but this is the ship I’ve been almost dreading being asked about.

Because I tried to get into it. I really did. When I first started getting into SVU enough to get really fannish about it, I tried to see it and like it, considering how popular it was. I wanted to see if there was something with the newer characters I could get into shipping or liking as much as I was into my SVU 1.0 ships (including of course Munch/Fin.)

But…I just have yet to really be convinced about Barisi. I just don’t see any real subtext for it in canon (maybe with the only exception being the one scene when Carisi tells Barba about taking the bar exam.) I can like opposites attract-type ships (and like them a LOT), but there has to be a sense, under the surface of joking and snarking and put-downs, that the two characters deep down really care about each other (like with Munch/Fin, or BA/Murdock in the A-Team, etc.) I can see Carisi having a lot of admiration and maybe hero-worship for Barba, which could lead to attraction as well…but I just can’t really see it on the opposite end.

I also wasn’t really impressed with what fanfic I did try to read for them (which admittedly wasn’t a huge amount, because I noped out of a lot just reading summaries and tags and just…yeah, no. Too much cutesy fluff, babies, and OOC-ness.) So while sometimes fic can sell me on a ship I wasn’t sure about, it hasn’t happened here.

And on the purely shallow front, I’m just not personally attracted to either character. Neither guy is one of my types. (Carisi maybe a little bit, sometimes, but generally he’s too generic pretty white boy to me.) And if I don’t have at least a certain degree of attraction to at least one character in a ship, I have a hard time reading any kind of explicit fic for them because I just don’t care to picture them naked. (And I think this is partly why I tend to be in so many rarer ships than juggernaut pairings, because my taste in men seems to be so different from what’s commonly popular.)
