Thee Satisfaction - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
The Combahee River Collective writes, for example, that black women’s experiences on the periphery have been a “life-and-death struggle for survival and liberation” and that peripheral and marginal lives incite a political stance that is adversarial, oppositional, resistant, experiential, valuable, and hard-working. The identity-location of particular black women, fostered by a legacy of racism and sexism, is thus refashioned as a politics that is underpinned by geographic metaphors, lived experiences, and different worldviews.
from Demonic Grounds by Katherine McKittrick
“The upshot of my lesbian identity is that I fall in love with female people-and want to.I don’t see it as a “lifestyle”-such a temporary sounding-term. It brings to mind this season’s fall fashions or a layout of home decoration…My lesbianism is more the ground zero of an emotional compass, ever searching out women. This orientation of my heart is not going to change because I don’t want it to. I’ve never been tormented by my lesbianness. In fact, it’s a favorite part of me, as Goddess given as being Black. What I have been tormented by is people’s homophobia-their deliberate ignorance concerning my affectional orientation, their active offenses against me because of my sexuality. I am not the problem here. “
Donna Allegra as quoted by Patricia Hill Collins in Black Sexual Politics
Official Statement From THEESatisfaction
After seven years of creating, touring, pushing boundaries and breaking through glass ceilings, THEESatisfaction has decided to end the group. We have decided to grow and take our individual careers to the next level.
Having been on the road every year since our first with very few breaks, it is time for us to rest, reflect & grow independently. We are grateful to our family, friends, fans, our agent Robin Taylor and our recording label Sub Pop for the ongoing support.
Sincerely,
THEESatisfaction

The Sub Pop Podcast
Taylor: If your thirst for musical knowledge is wide ranging enough to bring you to this blog, you are probably already listening to the Sub Pop Podcast. If not, what are you doing reading this blog! Stop right now and go listen to the Sub Pop podcast (if this blog had sponsors, they probably wouldn’t like me telling you to stop reading, unless, of course the sponsor was Sub Pop). Back? Good. As you now know, the Sub Pop podcast is a funny, intimate, and inspiring look into the self-proclaimed group of weirdos behind the awesomely irreverent record label. My abiding fandom of Sub Pop’s roster of artists is no secret and this project only stokes my love for the brand (and likely will result in me buying yet more Sub Pop swag). Episode one features Cat from THEE Satisfaction geeking out over Scorsese and Jonathan Meiburg of Shearwater really geeking out about birds of prey. They also manage to talk about music (which is something I aspire to do with this blog). The experience of listening to it is beautiful and strange…and not in a Yakima way.
