Yesterday we began the process of cleaning out Mom’s house after it flooded for the second time in 16 months. I came across a file box full of letters that Mom and Dad wrote back and forth when they were dating/engaged and my heart dropped - the box had been sitting in a couple of inches of water. Thankfully, the letters were only a little damp and far from ruined, so I took them home to dry them out. Today I saw my dad’s handwriting. I read of my dad’s deep love for my mom, read about his desire to follow the Lord in everything he did, read stories of his days at Georgia Tech. And I was reminded of my mom’s incredible gift for encouraging people, reminded of my mom’s kind, selfless spirit. This picture shows only a small portion of the hundreds of thousands of words that traveled from Georgia to Texas and from Virginia to Florida and so many places in between. I didn’t read them all - just holding them in my hands was enough.
