Another documented elephant behaviour - here the elephants carefully clear a spot from debris in the water so they will sip just water and if it’s not good they move on. This is a #repost from @elephantvoices via @PhotoAroundApp Another installment from our upcoming Elephant Ethogram: A Library of Elephant Behavior. A family in Amboseli first “filters” swamp water before tasting and rejecting it and moving on to a better place to drink. Filter-Water: Using the tip, or fingers, of the trunk to swish back and forth on the surface of the water to disperse floating debris. Then, placing an only partially submerged trunk tip parallel to the surface of the water, slowly and gently sucking in ‘filtered’ water. The filtering process may be repeated for each trunkful. 🐘 • Want to learn more about elephant behavior?
