Another documented elephant behaviour - here the elephants carefully clear a spot from debris in the water so they will sip just water and if it’s not good they move on. A family in Amboseli first “filters” swamp water before tasting and rejecting it and moving on to a better place to drink. Filter-Water: Using the tip, or fingers, of the trunk to swish back and forth on the surface of the water to disperse floating debris. Then, placing an only partially submerged trunk tip parallel to the surface of the water, slowly and gently sucking in ‘filtered’ water. Floppy-Running is often associated with trumpeting - in particular Pulsated-Play-Trumpets and Nasal-Play-Trumpets.🐘 Elephants Floppy-Run when they are playfully excited. This example shows an aggregation of elephants coming in from Amboseli’s Olodare area. At the road one of the elephants may have gotten frightened by a tourist vehicle, but that quickly transformed into an excuse for Floppy-Running en masse - adults and young alike. Several engage in Pulsated-Play-Trumpets.
