97, 98, 99…100. The Commander pushed his arms up for the final time, completing his daily workout with a hundred push ups. He stood up and pushed both hands into his sweaty hair. He walked into the bathroom and turned the shower on. The water felt good on his tired body. It washed away the perspiration and cleansed the weariness in his heart.

He dried off and changed into jeans and a loose fitting grey tank top. The man sat down at his desk and checked his emails. He flicked through his messages and stopped on the last conversation he had with Niall. Love you daddy. Those were his son's final words. 

He played the audio back and smiled. Shepard lost himself in memory as he relaxed.
