Had it ever been there to begin with?
The priestess watches him for a few moments before turning to her notebook, she didn’t want to continue such conversation. She honestly didn’t want to even start having such a conversation, the last thing that she wanted to talk about was how the world had gone to the dogs when this world had not even yet been taken by the white frost. If the time that she had spent in these lands had taught her anything was that there had never been a time of innocence, all had their hands dirty from one thing or another. Innocence was theoretical and the priestess had zero interest in such conversations. Before motioning back to continue what she was doing, before her eyes move down she motions him to move closer and sit beside her, resting the side of her arm against his while continuing to draw.
She guessed that if he wanted to talk about it that he could, she would simply not participate.
Gone are days of innocence, he had said almost to no one, thinking out loud, thinking too much. He always thinks too much. “...or always is there more to lose.”
A raven caws. Stirring from his thoughts, he realizes just now that his eyes are fixed on a page of his journal, on an old, old drawing. It’s faded. The lines of the face are fuzzy and the details had smeared from the rubbing of the pages, an edge slightly curled and yellowed from time. The sorceress seemed to notice his silence, his sudden stillness, and motions him to come closer. He does. She rests her arm against his and it helps.
She doesn’t say more than she needs to, he’s learned. She is bare-bone honesty.
“Again we share our time,” he says, watching her sketch. What is she drawing? Is she well? “I had feared our meeting last would be all of you I were to see.”

“IT’S HARD not to feel like a SHADOW of your old self these days-- more and more troubling news, flooding in everyday like a tsunami... it’s easy to lose yourself and your priorities because of it.

FENRIEL: why’re you so serious all the time? doesn’t your face cramp up from all the frowning?
PRIESTESS: why must you always pretend to be a happy fool? don’t you ever tire of fake smiles and forced laughter?
FENRIEL: why would i have to force it? i’m hilarious, watch; hey, bull!
IRON BULL: yeah, boss?
FENRIEL: d’you know why mages always forget stuff?
FENRIEL: ‘cos their memory’s a bit faded.
IRON BULL: ( belly laugh ) good one!
━━ The sun is shining, the surf is loud, and her tunic doesn’t fit right. ‘ If the universe is going to fuck with my wardrobe, it could learn my damn size -- ’, it’s not like that changes too often.
Sand covered fingers pull the dark green fabric ( not her color ), trying to adjust the strange hide belt with it’s pretty gold stars for a buckle. She is about to tug the whole thing over her head, chuck it into the sea, and accept the indecent exposure charge, if that is even a crime in this world; when she senses a pair of eyes on her. And turns to find the worst possible thing to strip down to your leggings and chuck your only shirt into the white caps in front of.
‘ Hey there, stardust.’ The witch slowly leans down her shining eyes sparkling with a small ( and only slightly strained ) smile, ‘ Where’d you come from?’

Beyond being with her cats during her time in Gondor does Beru have other things, people or hobbies to keep her distracted? A special place in there that made her feel safe? Did she think of her homeland and was tempted to just leave?
Why yes, yes she does, thank you for asking!
Berúthiel, in any and all verses, is by nature a scholar but of the poetic sort. Her languages were initially all book-learnt and she proved less fluent with them than she thought; but this only increased her stubborn desire to improve and to learn. She has always written poetry in her own tongue; eventually she begins to translate poetry from Adûnaic into Sindarin and Quenya, and from Sindarin or Quenya into Adûnaic. While in Gondor, most of her energies of this nature were devoted firstly to improving her spoken fluency in Sindarin (given that it is the primary language of the nobility there) and secondarily to her own poetry. Later on is when she takes up the work of translation more earnestly.
In addition, she weaves using a small lap loom, in a technique and style learned from her mother. She does know embroidery as well, including a style known in her homeland as “the golden road,” and occasionally employs this art; but has a preference for the methodical and almost meditative repetitive motions of weaving.
And she spends time in the gardens in Osgiliath, walking the graveled paths among the sculptures she’s used what authority she does have to import from her homeland as decorations. It is very little like the gardens in her father’s palace, but it reminds her of them enough for some comfort, so she takes the time to walk or sit there every day, when the weather is fine enough to allow it.
She was never tempted to just leave – at least, not to return to her homeland. Her marriage to Tarannon was an alliance which bought her father’s city-state continued sovereignty from the expanding empire of Gondor. If she ran away to return to her homeland, she’d just be punished and sent back, at best. At worst, it might have begun a war.
