I remake this post every so often, but it’s an important one —

The Inquisition relies on Orlesian support. Even taking a mild stance and not referring to it as an Orlesian institution, it was still founded on the back of the Orlesian Chantry, with a precedent in the first Orlesian Inquisition; Cassandra, Leliana, and Josephine all have ties to the Imperial Court.

The Templars you go to for support are led by an Orlesian, even if they’re in Ferelden and have Fereldans serving them. The rebel mages are led by an Orlesian, and very likely the majority of their numbers are from the Orlesian Circles.

The Inquisition needs the support of the Orlesian nobility to survive, which is why the war table has so many missions focused there. They provide political support, which is crucial if they don’t want to be executed as heretics, and the nobles provide the funds to outfit the Inquisition.

Many of the Inquisition soldiers are Orlesian. You’re introduced to some who come from Jader; many of the Orlesian nobles send chevaliers as military support, including a dozen directly from Gaspard; at least one chevalier can be put in a position of command in the Inquisition army. The Inquisition also absorbs Orlesian mercenaries into its forces.

The Grey Wardens that you can recruit are Orlesian.

Point being … an Inquisitor could, theoretically, hate Orlais, but the fact remains that their institution wouldn’t survive if it weren’t for Orlais, so being vocal about that viewpoint is likely to earn them a serious reprimand from at least one advisor.

#i would add that the inquisition is specifically a CHANTRY organization #skitty already alluded to that but #to be more specific:#in the lack of a divine & while the clerics squabble over who is in charge #the inquisition is the ONLY powerful and centralized chantry authority running #(and tbh that's why my inquisitor beru went templars)#(because she considered it the inquisition's responsibility to deal with them)#(after they went rogue on the divine)#so your inquisitor can hate orlais & the chantry alike #but they a) only have political clout because of orlais #and b) only have authority at all because of the chantry ties

ok ok ok i am really bloody tired lately, mostly because we’re short a position and it’s summer so we have the summer reading program to run at work and it’s summer so a lot of people are taking vacation leave (i just did five hours of direct patron assistance when i usually do 1 or 2) and the summer reading program doesn’t end till the 12th… but the week after that i’m in training literally every single day for five days straight SO THAT ALL BEING SAID….. semi-hiatus till my energy comes back.
