Let's Talk about Sexes baby...
Hey all you feminist, anti feminist, and in-between folk let's talk about this highly scrutinized topic. I'll put in my two cents and everyone just jump in and leave your opinions:
Feminism is both highly overrated and vastly understated. Yes women do face scrutiny and oppression in many places-such as the fear and threat of rape and countless other indecencies in other countries that women in America don't even know about- and that is unfair, but the vast majority of inequality doesn't lie in the word "bossy" or in overly sexualized commercials, it lies farther within. Face it, women are surrounded by the idea of sex and are often objectified its true but who do you think advanced this idea to its current state? Women of course!! Women have bought into every single sexual idea there is, from bikinis and makeup to breast and all other implants, even modeling and porn. If you wear makeup everyday or wear a bikini or any other revealing clothing you are buying into the idea of being overly sexualized. That doesn't mean that its not right for you to wear it but don't get angry or offended at a man or any other person who degrades you because the way you look matches the idea of how most women are seen. Stand up for yourselves for sh*t's sake stop blaming other people for your problems. Believe in yourself and stop hiding behind a vastly misunderstood term that not even you understand. If someone calls you a slut laugh it off or disregard them you know how their mind works and you are smart enough and self confident enough to not care, and if you are not don't use that as an excuse, they're are plenty of positive role models and ideas. So think for and stand up for yourselves because sadly enough no one else will!!
And men you face inequalities too-such as the threat of girl who cries rape, and the constant judgment of acting too much like the opposite sex- its just that they are not as discussed because frankly, not enough men care to say anything about it. Men are increasingly receding from the ideas of "A woman's place" because society is changing which is great on both sides, more understanding, less blind judgment. Guys should also ignore everything degrading about both sexes because guys you smarter than that too, don't blindly argue about an idea you know nothing about except for the few stereotypes you've heard, do some research if it really bothers you. And don't forget to stand up for yourselves too because women will try to undermine you as well.
But for both genders, don't think that words and ideas portrayed in our society which are meant to degrade us can be used to excuse our attitudes and actions. Stand up for yourselves and what you believe in but try to understand where each person is coming from because if you blindly disagree or agree to something without understanding you are setting yourself up for ridicule and hypocrisy. Don't be defined by just an idea, you need understanding.
Over all, I don't believe in the concept of feminism that our society supports but I do believe in equality and advancement for all people of all genders and cultures across the globe, because there are so many problems out there that we couldn't even begin to understand. So maybe we should stop complaining about our single minded problems and actually take a long look at the rest of the world. Maybe then, we will find far less to complain about.
Think about it. Research it. Talk about it.
Thank you :)
