how can one go to Taiwan and not indulge in one or two bowls of the famous Taiwanese beef noodles. . this time the family decided to try a new noodle shop - Liu Shandong - awarded Michelin Bob Gourmand. . now my family and i have a favourite beef noodles place in Taipei that we go to every single time (check out my future posts!) so expectations were high when we walked into Liu Shandong. we arrived at 2.30pm straight after we landed, there was no queue for seats but as stated on the sign up on the wall, the wait for noodles is around 15 mins. . ok back to the bowl of heartiness, there are two types of beef noodles namely clear broth vs spicy broth. interestingly, chatting to the shopkeeper, he said the soup is the same for both noodles and the difference of clear vs spicy is how the beef is cooked. i (and dad) personally have always loved clear broths as you can taste the sweetness of the beef and all the goodness of the broth. mom and little sister ordered the spicy version. . verdict: soup was flavourful but not overpowering. noodles were al dente (but not as good as the hand made noodles of my favourite shop). beef was flaky from the long hours of cooking but the beef from spicy version was MUCH better. . all in all, good bowl of noodles (best for a chilly day but i can eat noodles every day) but if you come here - expect queues / wait and order the spicy version!. - 📍Liu Shandong Beef Noodles 劉山東牛肉麵.
