A dry laugh escaped her, and before long, Tort had nearly doubled over with laughter. Eventually, she calmed herself, wiping tears from her eyes, and a sigh was let out slowly.

"…Silas… and the Pit," she answered after some thought. "Despite… sour memories and emotional turmoil - I learned from those experiences. I helped a friend who would have otherwise been doomed in the Pit. I survived. That’s what’s most important, isn’t it? Surviving and learning."

Why won't I wake up from this nightmare?

If you learned that another woman had been taken in by Silas, would you seek her out and warn her?

"You act as if I care about what he does with his time," Tort snapped, glaring at the mage. Still, she swallowed thickly, and let out a deep breath.

"…I would try," she admitted quietly. "But we both know how well that works, don’t we? I didn’t listen to my family and friends — why would she listen to a stranger?"

"Ignore him," she replied flatly. "Wouldn’t even acknowledge his existence."

“Either food, alchemy ingredients, or clothes. Anything else, I would likely just steal, if I can.”

“I.. do not enjoy recalling it… When E’hla took off her wedding ring and kicked me out of the house. She compared me to Drevain.. and Tortulja compared me to Silas not too long after. Needless to say, it.. hurt. Very much. Still does sometimes..”

“Attraction at first sight, sure. But love? No.”

The vampire smiled a bit at the memory. “Yes. It was the day that E’hla promised that she would never leave me. Not for anything.” He brought his hand up to the golden locket that he wore around his neck, and stroked the ruby on the front with his thumb. “She has done well in keeping her promise, and now I need to keep mine. I will be the mer she deserves.”
