There’s something reassuring in the cold of fall mornings, huddled into a jacket waiting for warmth to kick in over the struggling whirr of the heater. 

In the dark, tired and automatic, ducking little movements in and out of traffic with a hand on the wheel and a mug in the other, tucking cooling coffee and caffeine into yourself to shake off the frigid morning in your bones. 

It reminds you of your arctic expedition last winter to break into the state park down the road from your house just so you could see what the sunrise looked like coming in over the frozen still frames waves of the bay. You’re not sure why. Just because? You don’t know. 

It feels like way too early morning drives to school with friends. It feels like bundled long winter walks to first love’s homes. It feels like waiting for a childhood thaw around kitchen tables. It feels like predawn adventures departing for destinations known and unknown. 

It’s waking up after being so cold for so long.

Dear Chandler, hello, I just wanted to tell you a couple things. The first thing is that you're one of the nicest people I've ever met. Like seriously, you treat people so well. You made me feel welcome the first time I met you and that means a lot to me. Most of the time I don't know what to say, so I'm sorry for not talking to you more. Thank you for trying to teach me how to long board haha, I'm not exactly the best student. But thanks for being patient.

Aww, thank you so much, you dont know how much this makes me happy. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed the time we’ve spent together, even if it was for short periods. I’m also glad we got to meet, I think you’re really nice too, and its cool that we kinda got to longboard together, i hope we get more chances to longboard together in the future.
