hot ooc take but given the tone of GRRM’s writing and what we know about how he approaches tropes i dont get the feeling its the great romance people make it out to be? but that’s my personal opinion
mmm you’re completely right! i don’t write the whole TOJ affair as being romantic at all, and i cringed so hard seeing it being reduced to that in the show - as well as the idea that the rebellion was based on a “lie”. there is no lie in the fact that aerys burned two people alive for asking the king about lyanna’s whereabouts/wellbeing, and there is no lie in aerys requesting robert and ned’s heads. that’s what sparked the rebellion. had aerys been a reasonable man, and demanded lyanna’s safe return, none of this would have happened. that’s the tea.
i have an hc post on what i believe actually happened, put together by me and chey ( @willfulbeauty ) in one of our big brain moments so !!! while i think he and lyanna have potential to be a very interesting romantic dynamic, the TOJ-plotline just isn’t the right time/place/mindset for that, so any such interactions i have are always au/canon-divergent.
padmoo: how did u && mum make me?

The first thing Theon became aware of was the pain. Something burned at the side of his head and gnawed at it like an animal. He was aware of the fire ranging through his scalp, yet the source of it was wholly lost to him. He could no longer feel the cold of the North, however; the wind that so commonly ranged through Lord Eddard's bedchamber was lost to him. In its place was a creak of wood and the smell of salt and tar. Theon squeezed his eyes more fully shut, and slowly raised his hand.
His fingertips slid through his thick hair, slick with grease and something warmer. Blood? It came back to him in fits and starts. His servant, Reek, sputtering and confused. The dark low rumble of a voice he'd not heard since childhood, and the sudden vision of himself before him. Euron Crow's Eye, lips blue and one eye hidden, his grin rakish and mad. An argument had come of his arrival, unannounced and unexpected, the man thought dead for years. Theon protested that he had taken the North itself, the seat that Winterfell held. Euron had laughed, and grinning proclaimed Theon the King of Piss and Snow, and many other things besides. The fight had come later, over what? Euron had wanted him to leave, not to surrender but to leave. The North would take care of itself. Nausea burned in his belly as he rolled, and blinking, watched as the wall of a ship came into focus. He was laid in a cot, the sound of footsteps above deck moving, the scent of bilgewater below. Theon shut his eyes as he breathed slowly through his mouth and waited for the sickness to pass. He knew where he was well enough, the belly of The Silence, what he didn't know was why Euron had forced him here. His head burned where the butt of the dagger had hit him. He slowly reached up and rubbed at the bridge of his nose as he waited. What else was there to do? He was trapped. @thefirststorm

given that i’ve stated a lot on my blog and in posts that i’m book-based - it’s hard to include show canon when it invalidates everything about my own character… or characters like, jeyne westerling or jeyne poole etc. its almost two different entities for people in my position.
i understand this. i’m not saying that you absolutely HAVE to write with show-based blogs. i’m saying that people who are PURELY book-based need to at least give show-based blogs a CHANCE. because a lot of show-based blogs go out of their way to make sure they read up about characters they don’t know, plots they’ve never seen in the show, etc. this is from my own personal experience with show-based blogs. a lot of people(NOT YOU!) are super elitist though and refuse to even glance in their direction. it makes it a very scary place for a lot people who simply want to love a character and a world. they put in SO much work to find out everything they can about thebooks. i understand when people don’t have time to dig into the books(they’re long. i know i don’t have time to re-read them as often as i would like) but from what i’ve seen, they ALWAYS do their research. so just give them a chance to work with you.

Her eyes looked up from the piece of parchment Jon had sent, her eyes meeting his as her lips parted, her mind searching her memories for her MANNERS that Septa Mordane had taught her ever since she was a young girl. She’d never thought she would be the lady of Winterfell, considering she had several brothers ahead of her. Her heart sank a little at the memory of them being GONE, clearing her throat. “My Lord,” she greeted with a little nod, a breath leaving her. “I hope the seas were KIND on your travel to White Harbor,” she managed a soft smile at him. Courtesy first, always-- she wasn’t about to go straight to business, after all.

I was thinking about being more successful than dad, duncle, god, can’t a man keep his sexual fantasies between himself and the captain’s daughter
