Big Kap, an important DJ in New York City's rap scene, has died. The news was first reported by Funkmaster Flex (@funkflex). He was 45 years old. The cause of death was a heart attack, as Kap's road manager Ab Traxx (@abtraxx) told Billboard. ► Big Kap was most known as a resident DJ alongside Funkmaster Flex at New York's legendary nightclub "The Tunnel" in the '90s. He was also a member of The Flip Squad and Big Dawg Pitbulls DJ crews. He also infamously DJed for the late The Notorious B.I.G. (1995). In 1999, Kap and Flex released "The Tunnel", a compilation album. More recently, DJ Big Kap was the host of Highly Unique Radio, an Internet radio station in Atlanta. He will be missed! R.I.P. Big Kap ► "The Tunnel" Nightclub was a club in NYC that was open from 1986 - 2001. The Tunnel was owned by Peter Gatien and was closed due to excessive violence. Streetfunk TV and Choke No Joke recorded the biggest names in Hip Hop every Sunday night at the club most people feared to enter. Funkmaster Flex was the promoter for this weekly event that went on for seven years (1994 - 2001). Here is the infamous clip we mentioned in our initial post that went viral. S/o @oldschoolhip_hop for the oop! ・・・ Rest In Power to Big Kap who has passed away today from unknown causes. For those who don't know Big Kap was a member of NYC group The Flip Squad, a collective of NYC DJ's. He rose in the Hip-Hop community for his album The Tunnel which featured many well known MCs and Rappers like Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G, Dr. Dre, Kool G Rap, Snoop Dogg ect. He also got some spotlight when video of the 1995 Summer Jam was posted on the internet, it showed the late Biggie Smalls throwing a water bottle at Big Kap for in B.I.G's words " The nigga fucking up every joint". He would later say that The Notorious B.I.G. meant it as a joke so the audience would look at him and think he was fucking up, which Kap understood. Damn, another legend lost, this ain't the way to start February man. Salute to Big Kap for his impact in Rap and Hip-Hop, may he Spin In Peace.
