so we were trying to infiltrate a black market auction in service of procuring a specific magical item, and were being sort-of-helped by a gang leader named lone-eye. kol attended the auction as lone-eye's +1 while everyone else was disguised as servers.

very important context: this black market auction sucks. the night we attended they had living creatures like a satyr and merfolk up for sale. we'd heard that sometimes they traded in mages. [ominous sound of unintentional and completely unplanned foreshadowing]

unfortunately our infiltration went wrong almost immediately. cleo got clocked as an intruder and was taken to a holding cell. she managed to escape but stumbled into the auction's "control room", where the strange impassive cube entity that ran the auction caught her trespassing.

long story short: there was a nat 1 persuasion check and the cube just. added cleo to the auction inventory 👍

pov you are kol watching your childhood friend get brought out for sale. the magically-enforced anonymity of the auction meant that if someone else took cleo it would be very difficult to locate and rescue her.

kol thought incredibly quickly and proposed a deal to our sort-of-ally lone-eye: outbid everyone else for cleo and we'd pay her back.

so. that's how we ended up owing 74k gold (plus interest) to a dangerous gang leader who is Very Intent on getting her money back

Oh man, now that you’ve put that out there I kinda...hope that happens? He’s said so many odd or concerning but vague things when discussing his relationship with his family. I’d love to see him just suddenly and unexpectedly Go Off and give us the tea.

I mean, it’s fun if there’s personal history, but I figured what happened was that adeen was legitimately involved in the angel of irons cult, and essek saw just an opportunity to scapegoat him for the beacons, since he was already in trouble and if he actually did one crime probably no one would question whether he did the other

that was my original assumption, too!  but he seemed to be as memory-muddled about that as he was about the beacon theft, so i wasn’t sure.  like, he said to fjord (who looked like vence) that he recognized his face but didn’t know why.  and i think essek was present when the m9 told the Bright Queen & her court about vence and his connection to the cult, so he could’ve just kind of stuck that image in there without knowing too much context?  i feel like he got a little sloppy with the memory altering at the end there, idk.

we actually did a fucking incredible job of rescuing elodie's older brother leon from an imperial prison ship about 10 sessions ago. it took several sessions of planning and set-up but when it came to the actual breakout, things went as good as they possibly could have!

unfortunately it's been pretty steadily downhill since then haha. we are in so much trouble rn

as a player i know that Something is up with crankle but i'm deeply unsure about the specifics!

elodie has been having strange reoccurring dreams where crankle speaks to her for years but her dreams are super weird in general (and she has -2 wisdom) so i thought it would be funny if she just. never examined it further. as far as she's concerned crankle is just a normal cat (who has lived an unnaturally long life and frequently appears from nowhere) and she doesn't appreciate her friends' accusatory comments about him!
