lillian going out for tea with gil (notorious rake, francis' "rival" and soon-to-be knight captain) with only her maid as chaperone, and the rumour mill spinning it wildly out of proportion

lillian following this up by going riding (unchaperoned) with ser percival (a "poor match" for her), falling off her horse and being escorted back to town covered in twigs on percival's horse

francis being in a great deal of pain after riding in the parade, trying to withdraw quietly and gil instead following him to help him dismount AND THEN getting on one knee to remove francis' armour so his leg would have some relief. i'm normal 👍

francis trying to ward lillian off gil and instead being told that he's a terrible chaperone and not worth listening to (deserved)

francis cornering gil at the ball, confronting him about the lillian rumours and telling him to stay the fuck away from his cousin. gil assuring francis he only intends friendship with lillian because his affections are "otherwise occupied" (kill me)
