Demo Day!!!!

Today is the day the we  broke ground, demo day, smashing walls, whatever you want to call it! Im doing a few phases to the house, because all my money is gone and taking this little project of mine slow :) Phase one- Kitchen, bathroom and living. Phase two- master bathroom, yard, cute siding, office. Phase three- lots more! Today starting with the living room ceiling. It felt super low and claustrophobic, so me and my amazing contractor, Henry, have decided to remove the ceiling to expose the beams and add some skylights. I love light, need lots of it, I’m like a tree that needs sun to grow! So I am so excited to see how it comes out and really open up the tiny room.  More to come as we progress!

The Beginning

I started Stone Cold Fox with my best friend 7 years ago, and it has been one amazing roller coaster. A crazy learning experience, but it is something I can truly say I love to do everyday. Clothes make me feel giddy inside, and the process of drawing something and watch it come to life is one of the most satisfying things. From a sketch, to a pattern, a sample, to the photoshoot to running into a stranger on the street wearing the beautiful dress.

I grew up in Laguna Beach, California, and my mother, an art teacher, always pushed me to be my creative self. Weather it was dance, graphics, painting, sewing, pottery, I did it (yet, not always good at it). My sister, Sara Forte of Sprouted Kitchen grew up in a house filled with amazing coastal decorations. Remodeling was always being done, a new paint color going on the walls or some new chairs were coming in and out. Many say my moms house looks like a store, but I think she just loves beautiful things. If I was into jungles one year, she would mural leopards on my wall, or into music, I had every lithograph framed.

I get a lot of my inspiration from my mom and her unique eye for all things aesthetically pleasing, and my business side from my strong, attorney father.

After graduating from California College of the Arts, and after 7 years of building Stone Cold Fox to what it is today, I have finally saved enough money to purchase my very first home in Venice Beach, California. I have resided here as a renter for the last 6 years. I love this town so much, riding bikes everywhere, running into friends on the street, the parks, the dogs, the funky architecture, beautiful restaurants and hidden gems.

My first home is a 1924 fixer upper that I saw the beauty in it as soon as I walked in. Its a long narrow house and checks all the boxes to what I need to work with to make it mine. Cottage style, one story, a back yard (love having outdoor dinner parties), a detached garage (good for an at home office) and a large closet (surprise, surprise I have a lot of clothes).

Over the next few years I have decided to document the ups and downs, the renovations and decorating tips from a  young, unmarried girl doing it on her own, in hopes to inspire people to see the beauty in something old and taking the time to make it your own. And of course, thanks to my Dad in one ear, prepare to sell when I grow out of it, or the market is high! (Good advice Dad)
