Colm MacConIomaire 2012 - In The Deep Shade. I shot a series of portraits for the artwork of my feature documentary film about Irish band The Frames but decided not to use them because the film is about a band of artists, as a collective. It seemed like the wrong approach to highlight them as individuals and I changed my mind. The portraits have never been used. The film has no captions or labels, each person was an archetype, each one a part of a creative whole. I never said that out loud but it’s the approach I took when editing. We consciously set out to make an art film because they are a creative band and I wanted to show the chemistry of how they work and particularly how they use spontaneity to keep it fresh. You can’t quite explain creativity but I thought I could try and show it in a film which is really a medium of collage. This is Colm MacConIomaire who plays fiddle. Colm is a founding member of the band and his spirit, music and incredible playing are an integral part of their sound. The film is called ‘The Frames In The Deep Shade’. It’s available on iTunes. Colm has released a couple of solo albums of amazing music in recent years as well as composing music for film. #theframes #joedoyle #theframesinthedeepshade #5x4 #inthedeepshade #documentary #fallingslowly #theswellseason #musicportrait #colmmacconiomaire #irishfiddle #theharescorner #irishlegend #traditionalmusic
