I don't have the necessary anatomy for this to be a viable option, but I would if it were possible. (I think my ears are too small and non-floppy)

Okay okay so HERE’S THE THING about Ferdinand von Aegir (Legitimate Heir to House Aegir, Future Prime Minister of the Adrestian Empire).

The first time you meet Ferdinand, he is boasting about how great and noble he is and how he is definitely better than Crown Princess Edelgard, and you’re like wow, what an insufferable, pompous jackass. And every single character in the game agrees with you! The entirety of the Black Eagles house can only tolerate being in Ferdinand’s presence for about 20 seconds before they are looking for an exit. He is loud and dramatic and uses old timey words like “knave” unironically, and not even his own peers want to put up with any of that.

And then you start talking to him, and you come to a startling realization. This guy... actually believes everything he says. He actually believes there is some inherent ideal to the concept of nobility. He actually believes that people who are born into privilege are morally obligated to use that privilege to protect and represent those who were not. He actually believes that nobility is a thing that you do and an ideal to achieve. This is not some shallow justification for his wealth and status, for him. This is the very core of his belief system and central to his concept of himself.

Ferdinand is a Disney prince in a setting that neither wants nor has patience for a Disney prince.

Pre-time skip Ferdinand is a sheltered rich boy, but he is also deeply earnest and desperately optimistic. He has this clean-cut storybook moral outlook on the world and is utterly confused that nobody else seems to share it. He was born into wealth and power and the path he has laid out in front of him guarantees him even more wealth and power, but he wants so badly to use both for good. He’s full of dreams and eager to prove himself and eager to bring everyone else along with him.

And then he loses all of it. With Edelgard or against her, Ferdinand loses his house, his title, his wealth, and his future position overnight. His father arrested, his future dissolved, his power completely swept away. And somehow, he comes to terms with that. He doesn’t turn bitter and negative. He doesn’t lose sight of his ideals. He gradually, over the course of the game, figures out who he is without nobility, what nobility even means to him.

Post-time skip Ferdinand has all the same earnestness and optimism, all the loud, cheerful belief in the very best in people, but now that he’s been knocked down a few pegs, he is also caring, empathetic, and open to new ideas. He is just as dramatic, but now he uses his drama for things like, you know, breaking into Mercedes’ adoptive father’s house or learning to be a farmer-slash-baker to make Dorothea a single pastry that didn’t come from his own wealth.

Ferdinand learns to listen. It says something that so many of his C supports are him loudly blundering into saying something insensitive, and so many of his later supports are him sincerely and humbly apologizing for it. Ferdinand learns to see the world as it is and listen to other people and understand who they are. Because he genuinely wants to. He always genuinely wanted to, but his upbringing got in the way of his ability to really hear what people were saying.

It also says so much that many of his B/A supports are actually centered around the other person in the conversation. Ferdinand puts other people ahead of himself. He does everything in his power to right perceived injustices in their lives and to make them happy. He hardly even speaks about his own problems, but devotes himself wholeheartedly to theirs.

Ferdinand von Aegir openly cries over his father’s death. Ferdinand von Aegir openly admits that his father probably deserved it.

Ferdinand von Aegir learned to sword fight from pretending to be in an opera. Ferdinand von Aegir memorized every word of Manuela’s signature song and sings it to himself in private.

Ferdinand goes from trying to prove himself superior to the crown princess in the eyes of the entire continent to quietly committing to doing good work even if no history book remembers his name. He goes from being a pompous jerk to a champion of justice and equality.

Just. Ferdinand von Aegir.
