Residential district . Chisinau, like other cities, except the center, museums and historical monuments has residential districts. They are called sectors. In Chisinau, there are several sectors that are located around the central part. I live in the Checany sector; previously it was called the Dniester district of the city. This is a relatively a young part of the city. It is distant from the main part farther than others. Checany is located on the left bank of the river Bik in the north-east of the city. It is one of the most densely populated and intensively building sectors of Chisinau. Chisinau State Circus . The Chisinau State Circus was built in 1981 according to the project of a Honored Moldovan architect S. M. Shoikhet and was designed for 1900 spectators. The Circus could give up to 57 shows per month and was the fourth in the world and the first in the USSR for beauty and convenience. Since 2004 the Circus has been in a state of repair. Due to insufficient financing, the exact deadlines for the completion of the repair work are unknown. The Central Cathedral . The Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ is a Chisinau Metropolitanate cathedral church of the Russian Orthodox Church and is an architectural monument of the XIX century. The cathedral was built in 1830-1836 as the main city church on the initiative of the Metropolitan of Bessarabia, Gabriel Banulescu-Bodoni. The project of the cathedral was designed by the architect Avraam Melnikov. October 13, 1836 the consecration of the cathedral and the chapel took place. The cathedral was built in the Russian classicism style. In June 1941, the building of the cathedral was badly damaged by bombing. The restoration of the cathedral began in September of the same year and was completed only in the 1950s. In 1962, by order of the administration of Chisinau, the bell tower was blown up. Church services were terminated in the church building, and it was transformed into an exhibition hall. The building of the cathedral was returned to the church in 1989-1991. After that, work began on its restoration. On August 25, 1996, the reconstruction works were completed. National Museum of the History of Moldova . The museum, founded in 1983, is located in a monumental building, which is located in the center of Chisinau in the building of the former Regional Lyceum. It is interesting for its history and architecture. In front of the building there is a monument to the Latin she-wolf with Romulus and Remus, which has a deep symbolic meaning.
