Wow, what a GREAT Go Op we had on Saturday. Susan and I want to personally thank all of you who worked so hard, donated items, managed games, served food, picked up trash (especially the kind that dogs leave behind - an extra thanks to Patty Turner for stepping up to that task!), and generally showed up to fellowship with our Good Neighbors.
Eighteen families signed up for raffle tickets, two families had to leave before the drawings, so we had twenty families represented that I know of. Five families who signed up for raffle tickets were new to our list. Over thirty volunteers were present for a great day in the park. We consumed 10 lbs of taco meat, 75 bags of Doritos, 9 gallons of lemonade, 1 gallon of salsa, 2 lbs of cheese, 8 dozen cookies and 3 dozen cupcakes. When we ran out of Doritos, the food servers were smart enough to use drink cups to serve taco meat, cheese and salsa, so we could keep feeding hungry folks. We used 30 easter buckets, 3 dozen raw eggs, 150 plastic eggs, 10 bags of candy, and 60 plastic cups. Susan’s group dyed and decorated over 100 eggs, and the kids were still wanting to do more.
The choir sang beautifully (if I do say so myself), and thanks to Holly Boyle we had microphones and PA, so the entire crowd could hear us. As usual, the Resurrection Egg Story was a big hit, and doing it in English and Spanish allows not only all the children to hear it, but their parents as well. Way to go Maristela and Patty for keeping them engaged for the whole story! The Egg Toss is always a lot of fun, but the kids, young and old, all enjoyed playing in or watching the Sack Race, Egg Race, Egg Hunt, and jumping tent as well.
Next time we’ll have to get a lot more chairs. We had 50 and there were people standing and sitting in the grass all over the place! What a great problem to have. Fortunately, I had treated all the antbeds the day before, so we had no insect related injuries. To all of the volunteers, thank you so much for everything you did to make this such a fun outreach event. I just love Easter Fest! We couldn’t do it without you.
We shared the love of Christ with our Good Neighbors at Rancho del Rey. You were all obedient to the Great Commission and I am honored to serve along side of you. May you be blessed with three times the measure that you blessed us.
