This is a longer edit, but worth it. Please stick with me! I hope you all enjoy, and please let me know if the ending hurt you all as much as it hurt me making it, hehe. 💙
I have to rave about how much Zendaya looks SO much like Catherine Zeta-Jones. They both have similar cheekbones, smiles, and eye features. THEY’RE ALSO BOTH PRETTY BUT THEY SERIOUSLY LOOK ALIKE. Is it just me?!!!
"What did your agent say?" I asked when he got off the phone.
"I got it."
"That's great!" I jumped up and instantly wrapped my arms around him. I slowly pulled out of the hug when he didn't wrap his arms around me.
"Baby," I said slowly. "What's wrong? You just got a great role, opposite Hugh Jackman."
My heart dropped into my throat when Zac grabbed my hand and led me over to the couch. He sat down, never letting go. I studied his face as he looked down at my left hand, playing with the ring he placed on my finger four nights ago.
"Zac," I said softly.
"Rehearsals are going to take months," he finally said as he looked at me.
"Makes sense," I shrugged.
"And filming will take almost as long," he added.
"Zac," I said when he didn't continue. "What's going on, babe?"
I started to figure things out as he looked back down at my left hand. He continued to rub my ring with his thumb. When he took a shaky breath, it clicked.
"We should put off the wedding."
"Y/N," he stuttered, looking back up at me with soft eyes. "I love you, baby, and I can't wait to marry you. I hate to put it off, but with this new job. . . Things are just going to get crazier. I guess you could still plan while I'm filming, but you and the wedding deserve 100% of my attention."
"I'm not going to plan without you," I cut him off. "Zac, this is your wedding too. I want your opinion on the decisions."
"But this means we'll put off the wedding for at least a year," Zac stuttered. "Maybe more."
"Baby," I sighed as I reached up and cupped his cheek in my hand. "Waiting a year is not a big deal. The wedding will probably take that long to plan anyway. Most people talk about the stress of getting everything done on time. This year timeline gives us more time to figure everything out and plan the perfect wedding for us."
Zac leaned over and pressed his lips to mine. I smiled as I instantly started kissing him back. As our lips moved in sync, Zac reached over and pulled me onto his lap. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he massaged my hips. He broke the kiss, leaning his forehead against mine.
"I love you," he whispered. "And I'm so excited to marry you. I'm sorry my job is making us wait."
"You're worth the wait."
* * * * *
After Zac and I got engaged last spring, he started rehearsing for The Greatest Showman. He originally auditioned for the role, not thinking he would get it. After he did, he felt conflicted. We decided to put off our wedding until after the movie came out. That way he could help me plan without his filming schedule or interviews getting in the way.
They were almost done with rehearsals. In fact, they start filming next month. Through the craziness of his schedule, Zac and I have decided to meet up once a week for lunch to talk about the wedding. I walked through the rehearsal space they rented, smiling at the people I knew.
"Hey, Y/N."
I looked up to see Zendaya walking towards me. "Hey," I smiled. "How are rehearsals going?"
"Good," she chuckled. "Long, but good. Zac and Hugh are running through The Other Side a couple of more times before lunch. You can probably sneak in."
"Thanks."
I walked into the rehearsal space, a smile immediately forming when I saw Zac and Hugh going through their number. I had to hold back my laughter when I saw the top hats the two were wearing.
I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the side wall. I resisted the urge to pull out my phone and record as my fiancé danced around like he was back in his Disney days.
As the song finished, Zac looked up and instantly found me. He smiled when I lifted my hand and blew him a kiss.
"That was great," the choreographer said. "Let's run it one more time and then we'll be done for the day."
He sent me a wink before turning on his heels and going to his starting position. I smiled widely as the music started and the boys began to sing.
Right here, right now
I put the offer out
I don't want to chase you down
I know you see it
You run with me
And I can cut you free
Out of the drudgery and walls you keep in
So trade that typical for something colorful
And if it's crazy, live a little crazy
You can play it sensible, a king of conventional
Or you can risk it all and see.
Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play
'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride
It'll take you to the other side
'Cause you can do like you do
Or you can do like me.
Stay in the cage, or you'll finally take the key
Oh, damn! Suddenly you're free to fly
It'll take you to the other side
Okay, my friend, you want to cut me in
Well I hate to tell you, but it just won't happen
So thanks, but no
I think I'm good to go
'Cause I quite enjoy the life you say I'm trapped in
Now I admire you, and that whole show you do
You're onto something, really it's something
But I live among the swells, and we don't pick up peanut shells
I'll have to leave that up to you
Don't you know that I'm okay with this uptown part I get to play
'Cause I got what I need and I don't want to take the ride
I don't need to see the other side
So go and do like you do
I'm good to do like me
Ain't in a cage, so I don't need to take the key
Oh, damn! Can't you see I'm doing fine
I don't need to see the other side
Now is this really how you like to spend your days?
Whiskey and misery, and parties and plays
If I were mixed up with you, I'd be the talk of the town
Disgraced and disowned, another one of the clowns
But you would finally live a little, finally laugh a little
Just let me give you the freedom to dream
And it'll wake you up and cure your aching
Take your walls and start 'em breaking
Now that's a deal that seems worth taking
But I guess I'll leave that up to you
Well it's intriguing, but to go would cost me greatly
So what percentage of the show would I be taking?
Fair enough, you'd want a piece of all the action
I'd give you seven, we could shake and make it happen
I wasn't born this morning, eighteen would be just fine
Why not just go ahead and ask for nickels on the dime
Fifteen
I'd do eight
Twelve
Maybe nine
Ten
Don't you wanna get away to a whole new part you're gonna play
'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride
To the other side
So if you do like I do
So if you do like me
Forget the cage, 'cause we know how to make the key
Oh, damn! Suddenly we're free to fly
We're going to the other side
So if you do like I do
(To the other side)
So if you do like me
(We're going to the other side)
'Cause if we do we're going to the other side
We're going to the other side
The second they were done, Zac looked over at me. I applauded my hands without making any noise. He playfully bowed before rolling his eyes.
"It seems we have an audience," Hugh laughed. I smiled and kicked off the wall as he walked towards me.
"How's the future Mrs. Efron?" He asked as he gave me a hug.
"Hungry," I teased as I looked over his shoulder at Zac.
"Sorry," Zac chuckled as he jogged over. He immediately wrapped his arm around my waist, kissing my temple. "Blame Mr. Two Left Feet."
"Is that you or him?" I teased. Zac squeezed my side, knowing it would tickle me.
"You both remind me of me and my wife when we first got married," Hugh smiled. "Enjoy lunch, you two."
We didn't say anything as we watched Hugh leave. Once he was gone, Zac turned me towards him. He leaned down and pressed his lips gently to mine.
"Hi," he whispered when he broke the kiss.
"Hi," I chuckled.
"You ready for lunch?"
He kissed my cheek as I nodded. As we left, he grabbed my hand and instantly intertwined our fingers.
"So," he started, "did you like the number?"
"It took me back."
"What does that mean?" He chuckled.
"Back to your High School Musical days," I said, holding back my laughter.
"Oh geez," he groaned. "That's what I was afraid of."
"You shouldn't be," I mumbled.
"What do you mean?"
When I didn't answer, he pulled on my arm and stopped me. He slowly turned me towards him, squeezing my hand reassuringly.
"What do you mean?" He asked again.
"Babe," I sighed. "I love you but lately the jobs you've taken and your reputation. . . Let's just say, you could do with a wholesome role and the positive press."
I held my breath, waiting for him to be angry. Instead, he laughed. "Hate to say this," he laughed, "but you're right, baby. Maybe this will remind people of the guy I used to be."
I grabbed his hand, stopping him from walking away from me. With my other hand, I reached up and cupped his face in my hand. I stood on my toes and pressed my lips gently to his. Breaking the kiss, I leaned my forehead against his with a smile on my face.
