I am so excited because Beck and I have discovered sweet basil in our garden! We had planted some at the end of the school year, but there were no signs of growth until this month. They hid under our borage (which spreads so quickly) so we didn't see the herb until we did some serious weeding. The sprouts are still very small, so I decided to transplant it into a pot so that it could get better sunlight and so I could give it fertilizer until it grows more leaves. I have the pot on my apartment deck and I have been worried every day that the angry grey squirrels will try to burrow their oak tree nuts in my basil pot. Unfortunately, I have had many run-ins with the pests. They have killed my coffee plant I have had for years and mint I had tried to grow this summer. Maybe I should invest in some sort of alarm... I am crossing my fingers that the basil thrives and that Beck and I will be able to start harvesting in no time! For more posts like this, check out: thehumminhoneybee.wordpress.com
