A query on your beta-reading services; how many F-bombs can a work include before it no longer meets your criteria for YA?

Hmm YA doesn't have specific rules, so technically there is no limit. I think it definitely depends, since YA is a large genre.

For example, if it's 12 - 13 year olds as your target audience, maybe keep the swearing on the lower end and use words that are typically less "intense" than fuck, like shit, crap, hell, damn, etc. You could probably get away with a few fucks. But I think for 14 - 18 year olds, swearing is alright as long as it's not extremely excessive, like once per page excessive. Using it when natural probably is the best choice.

Teenagers swear a lot so it's not like they're not going to know the word or be scared by it or something. I think the biggest concern would be schools, publishers, and parents not wanting kids to read the book.
