I finally figured out why the idea of calling Ben desire to change the disorder of the Galaxy as “pretend’ is so icky to me . It is like calling Rey’s desire to be a Jedi a “pretend”. We all know she wants is family of her own and being a Jedi or a plucky girl smuggler persona is just a way for her to get it but that doesn’t mean her quest is a “pretend” and hence invalid.
