hi Lauren, I’m sorry to be weird but now that I have confirmation that Adam had a bar mitzvah.... I had to do some research. If his birthday is March 20th (30 Shevat in the Jewish calendar), his bar mitzvah was likely March 24, 2012 which means that his Torah portion would’ve been Parshat Vayikrah which is all about sacrifice. It just feels like something he would have taken maybe too much to heart... (I was hoping we’d both have Metzora which is about outsiders and all, which is ALSO appropriate, but his bar mitzvah is on a damned leap year) (also, if Rose had a bat mitzvah, her portion would have probs been Sh’lach which is the one where the Israelites wind up punished for their lack of confidence and have to wander the desert for 40 years which feels... less on point, but one of the characters in that story is named Caleb so that’s fun).
Omg I ADORE this thank you so much for this insight, this is beautiful.
Hello, Jon. Apologies for the deception, but I wanted to make sure you started reading, so I thought it best not to announce myself. I’m assuming you’re alone; you always did prefer to read your statements in private. I wouldn’t try too hard to stop reading; there’s every likelihood you’ll just hurt yourself. So just listen: We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy. I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling. Gotta make you understand. Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around when desert you. Never gonna make you cry. Never gonna say goodbye. Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.
uhhh i do think this is a war crime -shelby

Former gifted kid here, current teacher, very recently dxed with ADHD. I got giggled at in elementary school for saying “hence” and reading big books, had my grades announced to the class by peers to be mocked whether they were good/bad in middle school/HS. Kids were my friend only to cheat off me, I was teased and told it was cuz they were jealous/told to act more normal, etc. I’m an adult with anxiety/depression now and am only now learning how to make friends. Thank you for your posts.
I’m so smart I figured out that PUBLIC SCHOOL GIFTED PROGRAMS ARE A FUCKING SCAM.
They promise parents the ultimate luxury good, a child you can brag about. They completely fail to give kids who are intellectually out of step with their agemates an education that meets their needs and produces happy, healthy adults.
There’s this whole THING in the research where like, “Gifted children do not usually become eminent adults! This is terrible and unnatural, how do we fix this???” without thinking that like 1) If you have known this is true for decades maybe you should stop telling people that having an iq of 160 means their kid is gonna cure fucking cancer, and 2) Maybe fundamentally rethink the purpose of gifted programs!!!
theirdarkreturning replied to your post: my controversial opinion re: schools, colleges,...
I don’t think this is controversial! I’m a teacher and my school is shifting to online, but this is a very real concern that we have. I’m worried about kids on free/reduced lunch even though they’ve set up a system, about kids babysitting their siblings, about kids alone at home with parents at work, about kids with not good home lives… I'm giving them some work because I'm required to but it will be minimal and I'm not penalizing kids for doing it late.

Thank you for this. There’s a lot of overlap in social circles of librarians and teachers, so I know many many teachers are struggling to make the absolute best and most compassionate decisions they can given very few options. There’s an unbelievable amount of pressure for schools and libraries to keep things stable and running through this (I genuinely wonder how much of that expectation rests on these professions being considered feminized labor and the expectation of selfless caregiving + widespread vocational awe of people in these jobs) and almost no support or resources provided to do that, and almost no recognition of how many library workers & teachers are in the most at-risk groups. I’m grateful to everyone I know trying to walk the rope of meeting their requirements to keep their jobs & protecting their own health and the health of all those they come in contact with while striving to make the most compassionate choices possible.
I just want you to know that I was living my life, doing errands and making lunch, when suddenly my brain launched itself back three years and remembered to the sky without wings with NO WARNING AT ALL, so I don’t know what kind of Force magic you’ve been doing but it’s effective as fuck
@theirdarkreturning replied to your post “if my students do show up i hope they are ready to watch a muppet...”
Holy shit are you me? That’s what my kids are doing this week too. They were Not Ready for it.
omg I know my kids are not ready but they need to learn about the best christmas ever made
Ok I need to put this into the world because I’ve been thinking about Jewish/Jewish-coded Crowley for days now and just. What if Crowley accidentally created golems. He was just trying his hand at sculpture that century and it just. Came alive? And people started talking so he had to get rid of it? Hell commended him for inspiring fear and terror (1/2)
(Az got awarded for inspiring hope and burst into Crowley’s home, very confused until he saw a hundred mini golems chasing each other around and the demon in the middle of the room in extreme distress) (sorry to barge into your inbox, I just thought you’d appreciate this image) (2/2)
I see this and raise you: Neither Crowley nor Az created golems but they were hanging out in Prague at the time and both got rewarded for it so they just shrugged and accepted it because really, what WILL humans come up with next
