The pleasure derived from all these activities and sports (a communion with nature, some would say), can be secured without harming or killing animals. Driven into the Cove, terrified, ripped away from their families, their freedom stolen, losing everything that is important to a dolphin. Each has adapted to “life” in captivity in order to survive. Their intelligence used against them as they were taught to do unnatural behaviors in return for dead fish. They spend each and every day in this small concrete tank “entertaining” humans. In between shows, they search for ways to pass the time. They will live this way until death releases them. Dolphins around the world have similar stories. Wild caught or captive born, “life” in captivity is no life for a dolphin. Please share their stories. "Sea Canaries" by @maestro320 - 🔊🔊🔊 This amazing footage of a pod of Beluga whales filmed on location in the Arctic Ocean courtesy of Smithsonian Earth @smithsonianearth and shared to all of us by My Good Friend, Animal Rights Advocate, Conservationist and Environmentalist, Joyce @animal.radical - Like all whales, Belugas communicate with each other though sound. By blowing air through nasal sacs near their blowhole they create squeaks, clicks, and whistles. They produce such a diversity of sounds they have been given the nickname Canaries of the Sea. - 🔵Did you know:Unlike other cetaceans, belugas can move their head up, down, and side to side, because their cervical vertebrae are not fused. - The bulb on the beluga's head focuses sound waves into a beam which bounces off objects all around the whale. Sound moves faster and further in water than in air allowing belugas to sense the size and shape of objects up to 30 miles away! - 🔵The beluga whale is listed on appendix II of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS). It is listed on Appendix II as it has an unfavourable conservation status or would benefit significantly from international co-operation organised by tailored agreements. All toothed whales are protected under the CITES that was signed in 1973 to regulate the commercial exploitation of certain species.
