Philosophical discussions that I did not wish to have

I'm annoyed and mildly upset - the best combination for blogging!

So, today my coworker randomly asked me if I believe in an ultimate truth.

Now, you may not know this - but I'm not a philosopher. I have never taken a philosophy class or read any books, and I don't really care to. It's not my thing, since I already think too much about things I don't want to think about already. I usually lay in bed at night and plan for worst-case scenarios. So, no to philosophy.

I had no idea what he meant by "ultimate truth". God? Morality? Mortality? Specify, damn you.

I think he meant reality, but his talking points were so convoluted and I couldn't follow much of it. I'm not stupid, but like I said, I'm not a philosopher. I think he was referencing a lot of people I haven't read, and I just really didn't understand half of what he said. He was also talking really fast. I also felt that he was taking a lot of liberties with the information he had.

For example he said that everyone is either Hindu or Christian.

...what.

What he probably really meant to say is that everyone is either pantheists or deists, based on the additional information he brought up (he also made me a visual aid) (I also just Googled this to help work this out and write this post).

Of course, that can't be true. He's completely ignoring all of the other "theisms" out there. Also, I found out during the course of the conversation (which was rather one-sided since it involved me saying a lot of "I don't know" and "Why are we even having this conversation"), that he's a fundamentalist Christian.

I'm like, how do you function as a human being in modern society?

No, that's not really a nice thing to say. He's kind of a strange guy though, like I wouldn't have expected this from him because he knows a lot about astrology and sort of follows it. But when I told him this, he just told me he does, but it's demonic.

He believes astrology is demonic because the fallen angels brought the knowledge to women of the olden days. Same thing with witchcraft.

Okay, but why does it have to be demonic? Or is it that whole Eve/apple/Tree of Knowledge thing again? I'm only wondering because with my vast experience with demons, I've never felt astrology to be demonic. I mean, on some level I get it because religion and dogma, but on another level, it's just really ignorant.

Argh.
