“Day 15 - 3/29/2020” What does modern love, baby brain, and home cooking have in common? For me, it conjures up thoughts of home and hearth. Women, children and men gathering together for thoughtfully cooked meal. Laughing, talking, forgetting your last word because you were laughing so hysterically you almost fall out the seat. It makes me think of the many Sunday family dinners at my parents home when we would eat until we got sleepy, took a nap, then ate some more. All were welcome to the Minor’s Sunday Family dinner. We always had 2 meats, a starch, vegetables and dessert. It was always hearty food that sticks to your “bones”. At times we would have guests. Guests of all types. One guest stood out in particular. She was newly pregnant with “baby brain” memory and used that as excuse to get another slice of my Momma’s famous Midori cake. Oh Midori cake... green glistening liquor cake greatness. Any who back to the main story... the “Baby brained” guest continued to use “oh did I already have two slices? Dear me... baby brain.” Then proceed to eat a third slice. 🤣. Yes, Sunday dinner is one of my favorite memories from my childhood. I recall getting up to dance to a song on the radio between plates of food & sleeping. Waking everyone up singing loudly to “Modern Love” by David Bowie when everyone wanted me to take a nap like the rest of them. Yet dancing is contagious. Soon everyone was up dancing. Burning off all that home cooking... laughing, singing and dancing as a family and framily. 💙. Today, I pay tribute to Minor Sunday Family Dinner by blasting “Modern Love”, cooking up 2 hearty meats and painting this picture of my “baby brained” friend who we will call the Complicated Nugget. Happy Sunday everyone! RONIM Art Studio, Harlem, NYC.
