The Breach had been nothing but a giant accident, and the Herald was simply a smaller assumed impossibility in an ever growing list. His presumptions aside, Solas was quite certain that the assumption-shattering surprises would continue for the coming months, although he could only hope that they would appear at a slightly slower pace, at the very least.
He placed his hand over his mouth as he stared pensively at the Breach, its growth stable now despite it still being the most immediate threat to them. His resources on his own were nothing to scoff at, but they were still very slim in comparison to that of this fledgling Inquisition. As meager as it currently was, it was growing bigger by the day. As he watched Ma’nehn cross in front of him towards the Chantry, down passed the steps to the apothecary, he had to curse his poor luck. Granted, his luck seems to have always been poor, it was not truly a surprise.
The Dalish Herald was an unfortunate occurrence, although perhaps only for him in particular. It was difficult keeping his occasional irritation and bite back when addressing Ma’nehn. She was head-strong, over confident, and the exact picture that he had always carried with him in regards to those of the Dalish. From the moment he inquired after her heritage soon after meeting her, all the way to their first real conversation at the settlement, he had noticed a growing ball of resentment churning in the pit of his stomach. It was like déjà vu , speaking to her, as if he were addressing nearly every Dalish elf he had previously spoken to all combined into one package. He was convinced she would listen to nothing from him, and his nerves skittered at the idea that the organization’s opinion of him and his abilities would be influenced by their disagreements. He wanted to help, he felt obligated to in fact, but if this place was not safe for him, he would need to depart and seek out a solution on his own, without the anchor. Could he truly afford to leave, despite the potential threat to his health if the attitude towards him turned sour? If his plans were to come to fruition, he would still need the Breach closed. This was a benefit for him long term, but despite that, he still found himself entertaining the idea of leaving.
