Suri fell for the Tani whom he met and witnessing her story behind distress he did not want him to be the one to be remembered as 'her distress'.

You can question all the time about the plot's reasonability in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi but you can't forget the simple little barely unspoken ideas are being put here in a beautiful tone for audiences of all classes.
