Fandom observation -- when an RTD-era episode he didn't write is criticized, the fact that he didn't write it apparently means he should not share in the criticism. But when a Moffat-era episode he didn't write is criticized and you point out that he didn't write it, the answer is, "But he's responsible for the overall story so it's still his fault!" Why this?
because double standards are a hell of a drug
because rtd being a violent, sexist transphobe is "Okay because he's gay" or "okay because he's a good writer" (ppl have aCTUALLY SAID this to me)
matt improvises a kiss? MOFFAt'S FAULT AND BTW THE DOCTOR'S A RAPIST NOW
pretty much all the women he's worked with talk about how great moffat is and how he's never been anything but lovely to them? OBVIOUSLY THEY'RE HYSTERICAL AND CAN'T BE TRUSTED (which is suss as fuck to say. hhhm it almost... soundsss..... sexist)
like rtd fans are so fucking awful they've been mAKING UP RUMORS ABOUT PETER CAPALDI who just wanTS TO FIGHT DALEKS AND GIVE CHILDREN JELLY BABIES just to stick it to moffat
like, i used to kind of enjoy rtd's era despite the fact it was rife with sexism and transphobia and racism ("don't you think she looks tired" SHUT THE FUCK UP DOCTOR YOU're kind of being a total piG RIGHT NOW), but like
his fans have made it totally impossible for me to enjoy anything from that era now? like people won't even make gifsets from an rtd episode w/o adding a back-handed comment to the caption
and the thing is, like. if people knew that rtd and moffat still bounce ideas back and forth, and if people knew that rtd helped write the 50th, you KNOW you KNOW they would be singing different tunes
that's not to say moffat doesn't have his issues and it's certainly not to say he doesn't have some problems with sexist themes but there's way more of it in rtd's work and for some reason, that's tOTALLY FINE
