The cell was dingy and smelled like dung. He fidgeted around for the millionth time on the hard as hell rock mattress, foot tapping impatiently as he thought about how he could kill for a cigarette and some booze. Gojyo cringed and sat up. It was way too soon to even metaphorically think of killing. The thought made images from last night flash through his mind.
He’d been stumbling around a dark back alley, making his way home after drinking way too much at the local bar. He’d tripped over something solid and fell flat on his face. When Gojyo looked back at what got in his way, it made his eyes widen and his heart race even through the foggy haze of drunkeness. A dead body, a dagger stabbed into the chest. After awhile of some foggy back and forth mental debate, he’d been the one to call the cops.
And this was how those pigs with badges showed their gratitude. Hours of questioning and locking him up in a cell until he could sober up some more, then more questioning... then back in the cell to wait and wait and wait some more. It had been less than 48 hours and Gojyo already felt like he was about to lose his mind and was of half a mind to sell his left kidney to bribe the guard for a smoke.
After more minutes or hours agonizingly trickled by at a snail’s pace, the door opened and the police chief finally trudged into the room. Once again, Gojyo was escorted into the interrogation room but this time it was for them to propose a deal instead of more line of questioning. If he agreed to help them in their investigation in the recent string of murders in his gang’s territory, they would cut him a deal in his own sentence.
It wasn’t an easy choice, talk about being between a rock and a hard place. Go to jail for who knows how many years or help the police investigate his own gang and risk being murdered if said gang found out about his betrayal. But, in the end, Gojyo reluctantly agreed to do what he could to help out the police. So, next step was to meet his new “partner”.
Hands buried deep in his pants pockets, the redhead sullenly followed the bastards with badges out to the main office and over to the desk of who he’d be working with from this point on.
