When I was five, I kept my eyes closed through my entire ride trough of the Great Movie Ride. When I was fifteen, it was the number one entry on my “I have to do this” list. Three years later, I became a Movie Rider myself. And then I was lucky enough to come home and do it all over again. I took thousands of trips under the marquee. I got to be Mugsi and Kate, blowing up banks and jumping for the jewel. I had the privilege of training dozens of amazing new Movie Riders and hopefully giving them some of my passion. I (very briefly) got to be a part of the Hurray for Hollywood team. And I got to help host the Oscars. My time at GMR wasn’t perfect, but it gave me some of the best experiences and put some of the most amazing people in my life. For a while was my number one reason to get up in the morning and keep moving forward during a very, very dark time in my life- knowing I could pour myself into my job, be surrounded by people who cared about me, and create happiness and movie magic. I know I can’t go home again, but I’ll take it with me wherever I go. It’s a big day! I might not have gotten my official pin, but five years ago today I was in Traditions, getting ready to start my Disney career. I started as part time at Star Tours, got full time in six months, and trained at Great Movie Ride the following spring. I was fortunate enough to be a tour guide, a gangster, a bandit, a trainer (sometimes a trainer wearing gangster heels because I got pulled and forgot my sneakers), and, for a brief and shining moment, a Hurray for Hollywood facilitator. (And PAC. There was a lot of PAC.) Now I’m a safari guide and a Yes facilitator.
