My Gregg Araki VHS collection from High School. Lots of time and hard work went into tracking all these down back then. Turns out still worth it. Most are not on streaming and not on DVD or Blu-Ray in the states. Bootlegs and imports are expensive so these will still have to do the trick. For the music ask thing: Insect in the Infrastructure by Malediction (Hungarian death metal), The Pulse of the Heart by In Victory (power metal I found recently), and as a throwback, RItchie Blackmore's Rainbow by Rainbow (one of my all time fav albums) !! love u Soph

Insect in the Infrastructure- Malediction: I'm probably pickier about death metal than any other genre but. this fucked, the vocals weren't too annoying (i've never been one for squeals) and the production is jussst that perfect balance of rough without being flat that i really appreciated the depth of sound- will def be adding them to my list

The Pulse of the Heart- In Victory: this was really fun! power sometimes misses me but the technicality of the guitar really worked to give it some meat. a little repetitive at the end, but still enjoyable

Richie Blackmore's Rainbow:

Opinion on cover design: i absolutely LOVE this cover. def a fan of 70s era art but also. the fantasy fits so perfect for everything about rainbow, that castle in particular is so sexy. easily one of my favorites

Favorite Song: my favorite in HS was man on a silver mountain (so fun) but i think now it might be catch the rainbow, that intro is so smooth... and it's prob the emotional highlight of the record. self portrait is another highlight, it's got a moody and bluesy vibe that i love

Least Favorite Song: i think if you don't like rock and roll, while very infectious (love some sexy keys), is the obvious filler unfortunately

Underrated Track: i guess self-portrait? that one's so good, it deserves more love

Overrated Track: i love temple of the king, it's a classic, but it does not deserve to be the song with the most plays on spotify

Rate: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 (amazing record. easily a life-long favorite. but i wish it was jussst a bit tighter)

My first blogspot post was me sharing stills and an analysis of Greg Araki films. I wish I could find it!! As a late twenties queer, I look fondly at all my early attempts at exploring/questioning sexuality and the world of Greg Araki was a very important place of queer cinema + internal hetero-norm protest.

These stills are from The Living End (1992). It was dubbed the gay Thelma and Louise--the film follows two HIV Positive lovers that kill a homophobic police officer and then become lovers-on-the-run. Fuck Everything :) It’s a splendid and absurd film.
