After 7 years and much anticipation, the @studiomuseum reopens today, November 15, 2025! The Studio Museum in Harlem was the very first art institution I remember visiting as a child! We went on school trips, walking from P.S. 133 to its previous location at 5th Avenue and 125th Street, to take art-making classes and learn about Black artists. It's where my life-long love of Black art and its transformative possibilities began. Just as I was excited as a little girl whenever we would go, I am thrilled to again be able to marvel in this magical, inspirational, sacred space #WhereBlackArtLives! Brava to the brilliant Director and Chief Curator @thelmagolden and everyone who helped reimagine this new Studio Museum!

[It's also @studiomuseum director/chief curator @thelmagolden's birthday!] Alma Thomas (1891–1978) was an artist known for her bold and gestural style. Following a thirty-eight-year career as an arts educator, Thomas would go on to become a significant abstract painter—producing her most popular works in the later years of her life.⠀ ⠀ Now in conjunction with the artist's traveling retrospective exhibition "Alma W. Thomas: Everything is Beautiful," The National Gallery of Art honors Alma Thomas's legacy through this year's John Wilmerding Symposium on American Art and Community Celebration.
