Excerpts: With it, Mr. Richardson aims to correct what he perceives as certain imbalances in the gallery system. His goal is to present artists from marginalized backgrounds and highlight mediums given short shrift by blue chip galleries. He also hopes to restore context to art forms he sees as having been exploited, like graffiti. “I feel like what I’m doing is different from the standard gallery format,” he said. “No galleries, to me, have accepted hip-hop to be a part of their DNA.” _______ "The purpose of the gallery is to say all art is equal,” Mr. Richardson said. “But we are in the borough that created hip-hop, which is the biggest art form in the world, so it’s always an extending arm.
