⋆˚꩜｡Synopsis: Shion harbors romantic feelings for the reader, believing a simple gesture to be a sign of romance. This begins what Shion thinks is a game, waiting for one to just come out and admit it while they tease each other day by day. Whole time reader is none the wiser, believing Shion’s charismatic behavior and warmth towards her to be because she’s a foreigner that few care to interact with.

Origins
It started simple. So simple that it was truly unremarkable. You don’t even know how it was possible for him to fall for you.
It’s not that you’re not a catch, quite the contrary actually
But Shion is…subtle.
And a hopeless romantic. (Majority of the poems he has are focused on romance)
You’d be taken in by the Asaemon’s, Eizen stumbled upon you escaping from two men trying to sell you off to a brothel.
Before Eizen cut them down, he saw the fight you put up. Telling you “If it was just one of them, I think you actually would have stood a chance”.
You’d tell Eizen about how you ended up on Japanese soil, only more recently getting a handle on the language but almost none of the customs. Constantly finding yourself in trouble one way or another.
He’d take you back to the Yamada-Asaemon compound, explaining how, as a woman, it would be uncouth to wield a sword. But hoping to teach you medicine instead, he’d have you train under Fuchi.
(You’d have to beg on your knees then fight that man to convince him to have you trained to be a samurai. Its possible, but its gonna be a loooong battle)
Being the new and obvious foreigner wasn’t easy, even in the Asaemon clan who are made up of people of different backgrounds.
The bread and butter...
Now a little over half a year after being initiated into the clan, you started to feel more comfortable handling dead bodies and even Fuchi’s sterile personality (sometimes he unnerves you more than the corpses).
Speaking of Fuchi, he sent you to the training grounds to deliver some medicine to some Asaemon named Shion.
You never met him despite being here for almost eight months but that could be explained simply by the fact that you were essentially barred from sword training, so you had no business over there anyway. Well, except for now.
Strolling over, you found the building Fuchi told you about and right before you could knock, the door slid open. Startling you a bit.
The culprit was none other than who you were sent to give the medicine to.
He was tall with cloud-white hair, and most importantly, handsome. Which Fuchi sadly left out.
The only thing he told you is that he was blind with scars on his face.
Standing in the doorway, Shion cleared his throat before breaking the silence further. “Is there something on my face?” he asked, slightly tilting his head.
Soon realizing you had been gawking at him, you broke out of it. Explaining your reason for being there.
“You must be Shion. Fuchi asked me to find you and drop off some medicine.” you twisted, taking the little cloth baggie out of your pocket.
Retrieving it and without thinking, you grabbed Shion’s hand that didn’t occupy the door. Gently yet swiftly placing the bag in his palm, giving his hand a little squeeze so his fingers would fully encase it.
Shion was surprised by your diligence, his eyebrows quirking up.
You continued, “The instructions are that you must take one every twelve hours. And try not to have sake within an hour of digestion as it’ll nullify the treatment.” Looking at him as you spoke, drinking in every detail of him. I mean, if he was blind like they say, you could stare just a little bit.
“Any questions?” you ended, staring still. Your eyes traced the scars, the way they split his lashes drew your attention.
Shion thought for a moment, the silence easy and brief. “What’s your name? I don’t recognize your voice.” He spoke softly, his voice a soft vibrato that rang deep in his chest.
“Oh I’m y/n, nice to meet you.” you said as you extended your hand. Quickly you corrected yourself, placing your hands in front of you then stepping back to replace the gesture with a bow. Sometimes you revert to old habits, but lucky for you Shion isn’t picky about that type of stuff.
You felt it would be rude to treat him differently just because he can’t see you do it.
“I’ll be going now. Stay safe.”
“You do the same.” smiling as he bid you goodbye.
Yeah, he’s hooked after that.
The gentleness in your touch.
The smell of your hair while you just stood there. Your voice, he just couldn’t help but think of you for the rest of the week.
And he thinks you might feel the same. I mean why else were you standing there so quiet and touching him with so much care?
But also, what happens if he was reading too much into it? It could be his wishful thinking.
Maybe you were just staring at his scars? Did they disgust you? Were you silently judging, unsure what to say about his disability? You did seem like you wanted to get the interaction over with.
Ugghhhhhhhhh
And now Shion can’t sleep
It’s a Saturday night and he has a line of executions tomorrow along with training of young Yamada-Asaemon’s. He can’t let this keep him up all night.
He drags both palms down on his face as he lays on his futon. Sighing deeply in frustration, an idea comes to him.
He’ll just have to drop hints and ask you what you like the next time he sees you!
Feeling the stress release him, Shion is overtaken by a childlike giddiness. Flipping to his side and cuddling the duvet up to his chest, he drifts off to sleep with a smile on his face.

2-2025- List usage: Thoughts welcome- is it being used? This project is my little contribution to our space here on tumblr, having seen comments about difficulties finding black authors and artists. I'm familiar with an incredible number of creators now; I'm so proud of us. I choose to do this unsolicited and unfortunately, this may not be a needed solution. I formatted the list about a year ago and have maintained it, which I think is something important and unique about it (every entry checked about once a month), hoping it might be beneficial. Many of you send thanks for being added to the list. But within the last year, less than five individuals have shared with me that they've actually used it (likes and reblogs aren't necessarily indicative of that) and very, very few have either asked to be added or sent additional writers/artists my way. Those requests have been clear virtually since the beginning. Without feedback I assume the list isn't impactful and that's fine. I'll wait until the end of March to decide whether to continue. REBLOG (THEY’RE FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIKES). GIVE PRAISE. THANK PEOPLE. particularly with specifics (I’m working on all this too, my lazy ass), we don’t need more of us to leave… ✔️
Creating and pinning a masterlist is SO HELPFUL! ppl can better find your original works OR use a unique tag for each of your works so that ppl can search within your blog. ✔️
