“You’re making me think that what they told me about you was right.”Thelrand glanced over, then rolled onto his side to prop his head up. “Not quite the pillow talk I was expecting.”Avira couldn’t look at him for long, the lack of the thick red lines that used to mark him Dalish still jarring to her. She stared at the ceiling instead and huffed. “No, I’d imagine not.” She tapped her fingers rhythmically on the blanket that covered her. “Before I faced you that day, I had already heard of you. Of this great general who was as cunning off the battlefield as he was ruthless on. No one faced him and lived.”She could feel him shift beside her, his shoulder brushing against hers as he rolled onto his back. His silence was deafening. “I admit you crossed my mind when they spoke of your hair, white as snow, the cold emotionless expression you wore in the heat of battle, but I forced myself to deny it because how could it be you, fighting for a man, no the Fen’Harel, who planned to destroy Thedas.”Thelrand winced, his voice small. “I didn’t know he was Fen’Harel.”Avira sat up, holding her blanket to her chest and threw a glare at him. “That doesn’t matter! Did you blindly follow him without knowing his plans?” She barely gave him time to answer before continuing. “No, of course you knew what he planned because you never go through with something without knowing the risks, without knowing what you’re getting into, and that makes this even worse! You knew! You knew and yet you still left! You didn’t tell me you were leaving. And you lied to Bull. You just fucking disappeared.”She grabbed Thelrand’s chin to force him to look at her. “Did you even care about us, or did you not even think we were people, too?”He grabbed her wrist to pry her grip from his chin, his touch lingering before she yanked her hand back. She ignored the hurt in his eyes. “Of course, I care,” Thelrand murmured. “I never stopped caring.”“You must understand why I find that hard to believe. If Solas succeeded, who knows what would have happened to Bull, to Katsuro, to Maleus. Sylathi has children now, did you know that? What would have happened to them? Do you even know?”Thelrand pursed his lips and carded his fingers through his hair. “I… maybe, though I hoped it wouldn’t come to pass.” He sighed. “Avira, what do you want me to say? Don’t you think we should have talked about this before –”“I know!” Her voice cracked and her eyes stung. “I know. I just thought...” She glanced to the gold valas’lath on his finger, then bit her lip, forcing herself to look away. “I hoped you would still be the same man I fell in love with.”“Avi… I still am.”She shook her head, tears finally streaming down her face. “No, you’re not.”

Some modern!au Thelvira fluff for @lavellanlove to cheer her up during a stressful time <3

Avira woke with a start, her heart pounding in her ears, looking around in the dark room. How long was she sleeping? She scrambled for her phone, blindly grasping at sheets until she felt the hard, cool surface. Turning it on, she felt her chest tighten. It was 8:39.

Shit.

Fuck!

In a flurry of hurried movements and flailing limbs, she got out of bed, and nearly tripped in the hall as she made her way to the living room. To find Thelrand. Her stomach dropped in anticipation of his reaction. The living room was vacant, so she marched to the kitchen.

The light was on, and Thelrand’s back was to her as he cooked something on the stove. Without turning around, he said, “Good evening, sleepy head. Did you have a good nap?” “Thel, I’m so so sorry.” She smoothed down her dress shirt, wrinkled from sleep and tucked it back in her black pants. She could only imagine the state of her hair, loose curls in her face, her hair elastic barely containing her bun. “I meant to only take a quick nap after work and- and my stupid alarm didn’t go off. We missed the reservation, I’m-“ Thelrand had turned around during her apology, and walked around the counter to cup her face. “Hey, hey,” he crooned, rubbing circles on her cheeks with his thumbs. “It’s okay. Don’t worry.” Avira could only blink. His eyes were warm instead of a cold steel. His jaw was relaxed when he would clench it so hard, she could almost hear his teeth grind. Sweeping her eyes over him, she noticed that he was dressed comfortably in shorts and a t-shirt. She frowned. “I don’t understand. It’s our wedding anniversary. You had to schedule a reservation weeks ago. It’ll be ages before we can schedule another.” Thelrand slid his hands down to her shoulders, squeezing them gently. “Yes, I know, but that was before you took on a case that demanded more time than you expected.” He frowned a little. “You come home late, go to bed even later, and sometimes are out the door before I get up.” She bit her lip, her stomach twisting. “Thelrand, I’m-“ She was about to say “sorry,” but that would hardly make up for this. He shook his head. “Hey, I’m not mad for that. You’re so very passionate about what you do, and I absolutely adore that about you. I know there are gonna be days where I don’t see you, and that’s okay. So, when I came home to still see you sleeping… I didn’t have the heart to wake you up, so I canceled the reservation. Your days are dominated by deadlines and appointments; I didn’t want tonight to be the same.” Avira was at a lost for words, so she didn’t speak, just looking into his eyes. The tightness in her chest was gone, replaced by something fuller and warmer. She grabbed his hands to place on her waist and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close. “Creators, you’re perfect. What did I ever do to deserve you?” Thelrand’s arms tightened around her and he kissed her temple. “Don’t praise me yet,” he murmured in her hair. “I haven’t even told you the best part.” “Hmm, and what’s that?” “I’m making ramen.” Avira pulled back, wide-eyed but breaking into a wide smile. “Shut up, no you’re not!” His smile was infectious. “I am. Of course, adding my own seasoning, and adding fresh vegetables and-“ Laughing, Avira covered his mouth with her hand. “Shhh, don’t ruin it with all that healthy talk.” She yanked her hand back when he childishly licked her hand. “Yuck! Are you four?” He snickered and kissed her cheek. “And your favorite desert: mug brownies.” “Ooooh, you really know how to sweep a woman off her feet,” Avira cooed. She grabbed his chin to kiss him: soft quick kisses at first before melting into deeper, more languid ones. Her hand knotted in his hair, and his raked up and down her back. She pulled back for air and whispered on his lips, “I love you.” “I love you. Now get in your comfy clothes and we’ll eat while watching trashy romcoms.” “I’ll take that offer and raise wearing only our underwear.” “Hmm, tempting, but is being topless on the table?” Avira smirked. “Deal.”

Tender

A/N: After a rough holiday weekend, I needed to write some much needed fluff/sleep headcanons featuring oc pairings with @lavellanlove. Velriel, Asami, Maleus, and Avira all belong to her.

Tender is the stretch of time Velriel faces every night as he waits for his vhenan to fall asleep. Runale struggles each night, her body wound in a tight ball, her arms tucked close to herself, her legs folding. Her brows pinch, her jaw clenches as she grinds her teeth. He can read her turmoil on her face and slowly, tenderly, he smooths her face with caresses, reminding her that she’s safe, that despite what her mind tells her, she’s not alone, and she’ll never be alone again. His hand slides to her back, rubbing through the knots and the tension she holds there. As her breath slows and deepens, so does his movements, and over time her body unravels and softens under his touch. At last, Runale is asleep and there is peace on her face. Only then will Velriel join her.

Tender is forgiveness for being woken up time and time again from worry. Tamralan is so silent, so still, too reminiscent of a dead man, and Asami’s seen plenty of those. Her heart lurches in her chest when the sun wakes her, and she finds him exactly the way she left him when she fell asleep. Each attempt to wake him is always successful and he always greets her with a smile and a kiss, and then a laugh after she explains why she woke him. Have you woken up next to a dead man before? The similarities are uncanny. She eventually starts sleeping with her ear over his heart as a gentle reminder when she wakes.

Tender is Maleus swelling with love looking at the love of his life sleep beside him. For a quiet woman when awake, Sylathi makes herself known in her sleep: snores with each steady breath, only interrupted when she stirs or roll over, and she does very frequently. If he’s patient, he might catch her mumble something, and if he’s lucky, she’s coherent and he can talk to her. Or try to talk to her anyway. Her responses may not be relevant to anything he’s saying. She never remembers their conversations, and reddens with embarrassment whenever he mentions them. He just hugs her close and whispers that it’s precious, and she’s precious, and never wants her to change.

Tender is Thelrand holding his vhenan, his everything, close to him as he sleeps. It’s more than just an insatiable need to hold Avira: it’s a promise that they’ll never be apart again; that he will never foolishly let her slip through his fingers again; that after what the gods put them both through, they are simply meant to be. Nas’falon. More than soulmates. More than lovers. Feeling her warmth, breathing her scent, her body pressed against his. It’s the proof he needs that she’s alive, she’s there, she’s his, and he is hers, and that they deserve their happy ending, too.

I was tagged by @thereluctantinquisitor to post something that I last wrote, so here’s a snippet of my last post from my DA:I rp with @lavellanlove in a scene between Thelrand and Avira.

Once the passage expanded, he dropped her hand, looking back to her. "It would kill me if I didn't think of it any other way. I've almost died half a dozen times, and if I lamented over the past, or mull over the future, I'll miss out on the small moments." Since they were well ahead of the others, he pulled her behind a stalagmite to hug her. "Like this," he added as an afterthought. 

He pulled back after a moment, hands resting on her shoulders. "You have changed, but you would have broke if you didn't. You've always been a master of adapting and surviving, so don't act like it's a bad thing. It only makes me more confident in you and what we're fighting for." Without much thought, he leaned in to kiss her forehead, then turns to continue their journey into the caves.

Ship-A-Thon

I was tagged by @thereluctantinquisitor, @saphyremelodies, and @empresstress13​ (which makes sense, given the ships lol) I am so late to this party that idk who to tag im SORRY. Please tag yourself for me if u wanna and I’ll be grateful <3 

1. First ship you ever wrote fic for: Solavellan. My feelings about how DAI resolved were what drew me to this hellsite. It took a while for me to actually start writing outright, but I’m assuming it would have been content for them. (Don’t know that I’d consider any of it ship fic, though.)

2. Ship you write the most now: Mostly OC x OC ships atm, since those characters can grow dynamically, I have a collaborator, and they aren’t so played out. Hanavira (Avira x @thereluctantinquisitor​’s Hanin Lavellan) To summarize the novels worth of content, they’re distant clanmates who came together to solve the unjust massacre of their clan with Armor and Secrets and Ducklings (ie. the Dawn Squad). Despite their very different approaches, they clear up old misunderstandings, find their ideals and worldviews are much the same, and learn that when they manage to open up to one another, their complementary strengths have the capacity to make each other better.

Thelvira (Avira x @saphyremelodies​ Thelrand Lavellan) He was one of the first people to the scene when she was found near death on the outskirts of clan territory. She was one of the few people who could go toe-to-toe with him in an argument and come out unscathed. And though he may have been cocky and controlling at times, he was always there to get Avira out of whatever trouble she got herself (and Sylathi) into. Perhaps more than anyone, he knew Avira for her true self, before the Inquisition shaped her into what she is, and she was able to cut through the charisma and affirm his inherent worth, expectations be damned. Even though he ultimately chose to end things, that emotional mooring only grew more precious to her as time passed.

3. Ship you read the most now: I don’t know! I haven’t been reading much lately, so it’s pretty much just whatever my mutuals are posting at the moment.

4. Newest ship: Malrus!!! (Maleus x @thereluctantinquisitor​‘s Cyrus). Worst ship name ever, but it stuck because we reap what we sow. They had this bonding moment in a recent bit of RP, and I came away feeling like they would both be good for each other, given how surprisingly deeply they were able to connect over their pasts and reassure each other. Excited to see where this goes/if it goes.

5. Rare ship you wanna read more of:

@lechatrouge673​‘s Thea (nee Trevelyan) x Loghain Mac Tir. I’ll admit, I was never even a Loghain fan until I read her work.

@szajnie has SUCH an interesting dynamic for her Warden, Elspeth Cousland x Hawke. I’m here for it.

@idrelle-miocovani‘s Rhea Tabris x Daveth. Didn’t know I needed this. AND YET (my god i need to have a marathon and catch up on this bc I still think abt it all the time!)

6. Your taboo ship: I don’t think I ship anything taboo? How boring am I. I have plenty of ships that don’t do it for me, but that’s not quite the same.

7. They never met in canon ship:   Talira: (Avira Vedaris x @saphyremelodies​‘ Talim Vaharel) If she gets blighted leaving Amaranthine and has to undergo the Joining, she eventually meets Talim when she goes for training in Orlais and catches Feelings. Talim overcomes his fear of opening himself up to love again (after being exiled away from his bondmate and family), even knowing the Calling will rip it all away again. Avira lives out her remaining years honoring his memory and preventing the wardens who follow from ever having to die alone or forgotten in the Deep Roads.

8.Your unexpected ship:

Thelvira: @saphyremelodies​, we didn’t even set out for these two, REMEMBER!? He was a CAMEO. Alas, if there can be UST over prepping a ram for a feast, there can be UST anywhere, and so it was that we learned Thel was bi and Avi was into him.

Malrus: @thereluctantinquisitor​ these two snuck up on me and I am so far 1000% here for it.

Katsuma: @leothelionsaysgrrrr I was absolutely shocked that I hadn’t considered them before, but I think they just WORK. Freaking dorks, concerning Lux and Avi with their utter comfort discussing the morbid physics of death and combat. It’s perfect. I love that they can be unapologetically themselves around one another.

9. The ship you always forget to give love to: Tasami: (@saphyremelodies​’ Tamralan x Astaramai) I was sitting here trying to think of reasons, but there are no good ones. They have a mature, understated dynamic that is a breath of fresh air. Lots can go unsaid, which I love. There are plenty of challenges ahead of them, and they don’t always get a happy ending, but it’s good while it’s good.

11. Ship you’re embarrassed to ship: Solavellan. The characters themselves, as they are in game, have great narrative potential, but fandom has wandered so far off into ooc fanon over the years that the ship I see on my dash is one I barely recognize (and often makes me cringe).

12. Your most romantic ship: Malathi, Malephine, Malrus, Watermalon (Maleus x @thereluctantinquisitor‘s Ralon) ...Anything involving Maleus, tbph. He is the High Romance guy.

13. Your sexiest ship: Thelvira, hands down. (Avira x @saphyremelodies​ Thelrand Lavellan). Or if we’re being REAL sexy, Thelavuro (Thelrand x Katsuro x Avi, even though it only exists in AUs of AUs lol). Basically anything with Thelrand becomes sexy because he MAKES it so.

14. Your most tragic ship: Solavira. In different circumstances, they could have been happy together. And they were, for a time. But the lies and secrets couldn’t hold, and despite obvious mutual affection and regret, trust eroded and it had to end. Now, though their conflicting duties have driven them further apart, their once intimate knowledge of one another have forged them very reluctant, dangerous enemies.

15. A ship you want more content for:

Charter x Tessa Forsythia. Mostly because I love Charter with my entire heart and soul and Tessa is a precious bean and deserves happiness too.

Also need more Marius x Calpernia. For reasons. But I think I’d have to write it for that to happen.

I need to write more Gael Hawke, Elyon Andras, and Luca Tabris to figure out their ships (if they have any). I also need to write Lynmyath with her bondmate when they were younger, since they were SUPER in love.

Maleus: “It’s nothing short of a miracle that Sylathi has any interest in me. Early on, I always felt like a fool when I tried to talk to her. Nothing felt like it came out right, and I just kept talking, and that only made it worse. I couldn’t even remember half our discussions because I was so busy kicking myself for what I’d just said! I am just relieved it all worked out!”
