False Alarm | Morty & Chroma

“I saw… a scary looking woman in the Burned Tower…” The young girl’s voice was shaking despite her best efforts to regain her composure. “She... looked like a ghost...”
If it weren’t for his familiarity with the area, Morty might have believed it was indeed a ghost that gave this child a fright. But there was no record of human spirits haunting the Burned Tower. Only the legendary beasts were known to have perished in the fire long ago.
“Are you sure that’s what you saw?” He asked the girl, receiving a slow nod from her in response. “It might have just been an illusion.” The wild Gastly in the ruined tower were notorious for scaring children away from their habitat in that manner. The girl quickly shook her head, wiping away the tears that were forming in her eyes.
The gym leader eyed the tower from where they stood, regarding it with mild suspicion after she calmed down enough to tell the rest of her story: She was exploring the when she heard the muttering of a woman’s voice. When the girl turned around, she saw a pale woman crouched on the floor wearing a long black dress. The girl ran away in fear before she could even think about getting a second look at her.
He hadn’t sensed any presence of supernatural activity forming in the ruins lately and there was nothing that gave him a cause for concern, but he wasn’t about to dismiss the child’s claims.
“You just wait out here, alright? I’m going to go check it out.” Morty said to her with a reassuring pat on her shoulder.
