The life of an actor, stage or screen, was, and always would be, a battle. The truth was hidden behind the word “audition”, but for those who had been through one knew it was far more than just giving a few bars of a song. Mitch held it akin to baring his soul. He committed to settling himself free, leaving himself raw, giving all the character deserved. And, though he felt as though he gave until he had nothing left, the man had to remember he wasn’t alone it that. Everyone beside him, lined up for hours to get their shot at gaining the casting director’s attention… theaters may be damn beautiful, a place to feel your life changed, and to let music and dance carry you away.. but there was no denying that each stage was covered in literal sweat, tears, and pawned souls.
The man had been damn lucky in his Broadway career. Not only had he found his soulmate, he had fans, status in the community, and had built a family of those who loved the art as much as he did. But waiting for the call back for a role was nothing short of torture. Damn it, he knew he’d be a perfect Clyde Barrow. There was no way that wasn’t true. The first callback had been cake. The second audition was nothing short of perfect, and still…. the wait.
Riding the subway with his husband, leaning against the railing as they stood side-by-side, his hand clenched his phone, knuckles nearly white as he tried to focus on the dirt on the floor. It was soon to be the day.. it wasn’t an exact science, but it was generally the same. And, no matter how prepared he imagined he was, he still jumped at the feel of the vibration in his hand.
“Shit..” Mitch muttered as his finger slid on the screen. “He-hello,” He’d reach to plug his opposite ear in the hopes to hear better. “Yes, this is Mitchell, hello.” His stomach was whirring like crazy within him despite his cheery voice. But with one short sentence, it all exploded within him. HE GOT THE PART! He would be opening as Clyde, the infamous Barrow, on Broadway… no way! “Yes! Yes, of course, thank you so much, yes.” Reaching to Kian, he’d grip at his shirt, his eyes watering as he laughed out. “You too, thank you, yes, goodbye.”
Looking to his husband, his eyes filled with disbelief and joy would release a tear as he started to laugh out more. “I did it! I did it, babe, I got it! I got Clyde!” Moxie didn’t give a care to those around him that turned to his celebration, all he saw was his husband, all he could process was the happy news. “I got it! Hell yes, yes!”
