Sorry, a bit gone, but what does 'high seas' define as? Like open, unclaimed waters? Also can mermaids be part of the pirate AU (or some kind of sea creature shifter like selkie or siren)?

Hello! High sea adventure just means that the story takes place mainly on the oceans, and doesn’t necessarily involve pirates. So stories about sailors, the navy, fisherman, travelling, hunting mythical beings or sea monsters can all be categorized as ‘high sea’. All ocean lore creatures can be part of either genre!
